I’m not rooting for the pilot to crash. I am rooting for the air traffic controller who sent two planes directly at each other to lose his job though.

I want Silverfield to survive to next year. I want Hunter gone 5 years ago. I don’t want him to even be in the same room when they are talking about the next coach.

I don’t want any Memphis coach to ever be considered again. Fuentes, Norvell and Silverfield is proof they just had more money in a shittier conference.

As for new HCs I'm looking more towards folks who have been juggernauts on the FCS/G7 level. Not folks who had a good season, people who have won consistently for years.

So, you're aginst hiring a coach because he eeked out a one point win against our worst defense in memory?

I couldn’t agree more with this. It’s what I was saying last round. We need a coach with a history of winning. Conference titles, bowls, maybe even a NC at a lower level. That was my biggest problem with Silverfield. He was a below-average coach in the AAC. Slowly destroying whatever Fuentes and Norvell had built. Hell, he was a season away from being squarely on the hot seat, if not fired. Memphis fans were thrilled to be rid of him. Baffling hire.

Until yurachek leaves & probably an overall administration cleanse, talking about a head coach change is pointless. It’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. Just more of the fans living in fantasy land.

Again, bashing the head coach or players is like bashing pawns on a board. It does nothing but damage our actual reality. Unless a generational talent leader is miraculously hired that can overcome our admin, we’re stuck where we are. That’s reality. Fans somehow convince themselves that our admin can find that type of leader

Who are you even talking to at this point? Literally everyone that wants Silverfield gone also wants Yurachek gone for hiring him among a laundry list of other things. Have you even seen one person advocating for Hunter to be the one to make the next hire?

Every single BoT member involved with the hiring of Morris is no longer on the board. It's a completely new set of people in that regard and a member is replaced every year. With Boyer's passing last year and his seat being filled by an interim, 7/10 of the people on the board weren't even there when Pittman was hired. The BoT is a boogeyman. The only constant is Yurachek.

At the same time, acting like Silverfield had no choice but to come in and make us even worse than last year is just flat out naive. His situation isn't any different from the last coach's "blue light special" and even he managed to produce the best coaching tenure record wise in over a decade.

Is there a guarantee yurachek won’t be involved with the next hire?

If so, I take back everything

Considering the temperature on the hill right now, I'd be completely shocked if Yurachek outlasts Silverfield. If he does, that'll all but confirm that Cal pretty much owns the athletic department right now. Which will also ramp up the pressure on him to provide more than a Sweet 16.

At most I'd see them both getting replaced in the same year, but I think the new AD giving Silverfield another year at least is more likely if the rumors of Silverfield securing funding he wasn't able to use this year are actually true. Of course that's also assuming that funding doesn't back off after the showing this year.

I’d like to see an analysis comparing NIL spend to performance. I suspect that correlates more than any other factor including new coaching hires.

Not saying coaching doesn’t matter…but just as Memphis coaches have landed with a thud after moving to jobs where their NiL advantage was reduced…I think you would find the same thing universally.

Even with yurachek replaced, my faith in the powers that be to run the football program properly won’t return overnight. Too many years of shite leadership.

I’ll continue with the same approach, optimistic low expectations.

I think that’s the problem. We aren’t in love, we aren’t upset.. we are just apathetic and most have been since Bert years.

You can live with mad fans. At least they are passionate about the product. Apathy though. Apathy kills.
