coaching staff expected
By Bart Pohlman
UPDATE: According to sources, Arkansas offensive coordinator Dan Enos is expected to remain with the Razorbacks, despite interest from college and NFL teams.
Former UConn head coach Bob Diaco is one of several candidates for Arkansas’ open defensive coordinator position and has interviewed for the job, sources told Sports Talk.
Diaco, the former defensive coordinator at Notre Dame from 2010-13 and Broyles Award winner in 2012, has experience with the 3-4 defense, something Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema plans to move forward with in 2017.
In his four years leading the Irish defense, Diaco’s unit never ranked worse than 27th nationally in scoring defense, and in 2012, Notre Dame ranked second in the country, allowing only 12.8 points per game.
Diaco and Bielema were teammates at Iowa for a year, with the Arkansas head coach then serving as a graduate assistant with the Hawkeyes for Diaco’s final two seasons.
Sources indicate current Arkansas defensive backs coach Paul Rhoads is expected to be at least a co-defensive coordinator with the Razorbacks next season, and that there could be another change to the defensive staff.
Current Arkansas defensive coordinator Robb Smith’s new deal with Minnesota is expected to become official as early as today.

Even if it's with better athletes than UofA can land, the bolded portion is impressive. If our defense was even ranked in the 30s-40s the last 2 years we would've won at least a couple more games each season, and possibly the Belk Bowl. As I stated in the other thread, Diaco and Rhoads as CO-DCs, Partridge coming back to fill in for Segrest, and a stud recruiter / ST coach at the 10th new assistant spot is my dream scenario.

Also, this article and several before it state that Diaco has already interviewed, not that he's going to. Some paysite articles are saying that CBB is expected to act quickly on the new DC hire and they mention Diaco as the man. Also saying that there's more defensive staff turnover on the way, hopefully Segrest.

I wake up every day hoping to hear rory is fired.

This news makes me

If he dumps rory then the fat guy atleast sees what I have seen for the last 2 years. Also got rid of Smith quickly after I seen issues.

Anybody know if diaco likes to blitz?? Please say yes. We need to bring pressure and make QB'S read and react quickly and blow up RPO plays. This is how you beat them,

We also need to bring edge pressure as it throws off reads and puts a guy in position to hit both the RB and the qb.

I've read a couple of articles on Diaco and it sounds like he's another read and react guy.

Not sure if we have a legit NG big enough and fast enough to run his 3-4 like he did at ND

Bijohn Jackson next season and putting Agim on the inside would also force a double team.

Austin Capps and Guidry would also be candidates.

Its not about the size...its about someone that gathers a double team. Obviously you would like them over 300 lbs though.

Agim seems like a perfect fit for the DE spot in the 3-4.

Agim is the prototypical outside linebacker in a 3-4, we need more lbs his size.

Eh, I can agree that he is somewhere in the middle atm. He is 290, he will need to slim down some if he is going to play OLB in a 3-4

Capps and Guidry would need major off season development.
Sosa would be a good candidate yet under 300.

Bijon is just too slow.

Can Diaco transform the team over the off season to show improvement and keep Bert's arse from being a flame thrower in 2018?

Lot's of questions to be answered in the coming months.

Well, it would be near impossible for the Run D to get worse and I don't expect our secondary to get worse either. I guess it will just depend on how much we improve.

The guy who wrote that article knows more about defense than Robb Smith. Let's just hire him

Bijhon is a prefect 3-4 nose tackle... Just think Vince Wolfork. Strong as an ox, lane clogger.

It's not about sacks and explosively for that position, it's about taking on double teams and stopping the run.

As for Agim playing 3-4 OLB.... Not gonna happen. Dude is a legit inside pass rusher at 300 lbs. No way he'd be able to slim down to 255 as an outside LB pass rusher and be effective. He's really the only guy I the scheme change is going to be hurt by the scheme change. He's a prototype 4-3 rush tackle - think Warren Sapp.

He might can become a DE though

290 is what DE'S really play at in a 3-4. So he will transition just fine.

Agim is a great fit for a 3-4 DE. Explosive as hell off the snap, great first step. One of the things that pissed me off the most in this bullshite season was them packing pounds on him and shoving him inside. Bijon and Capps would be able to handle NG just fine I believe. Capps will need a little more weight tho. I just am struggling to see us find the Lbs to pull this off, but I like the possibilities a 3-4 defense brings to the table.
