Honest question - do y’all think he has what it takes to win it all? I’m starting to think it’s about time for him to respectfully hang his spurs up. Our baseball program can’t be complacent with the amount of money that people have and are spending on it.

The 2018 CWS final will answer that question.

Maybe not but I do think it’s weird so many are questioning him one season removed from one of the best seasons in SEC history

I think DVH does, but I don't think his assistants do. He badly needs a whole staff change. He needs to find the next Vitello/Wes Johnson combo. Thompson and Hobbs suck.

I can understand where you and gohogs are coming from. But we seem to just have an apathetic or “we’re going to lose mentality”. To DC’s point, just bc we missed a foul doesn’t mean that we couldn’t have put that game away or even the next. I saw killer spirit from our football and basketball teams and I definitely see it with our women’s softball team. The longer this plays out, the worse it seems to have gotten and the lack of coaching changes and poor in-game decision making is atrocious(how many times could we have scored extra runs or gotten extra bases and we’ve held up only to then steal while losing with 1 out in the 9th?). This pattern sucks and it’s crap to watch. If DVH can get assistants that can bring that heat back great, but I don’t see what I used to in him (and no, I’m not saying fire him and hire Fratelli). I hope to see major shakeup though on staff after this year.

I miss his small ball teams
Few times I've watched lately I feel like they're auditioning for the golf team

I'll take small ball, this team bats like they are at top golf.

So that's a yes? If Carson Shaddy doesn't go full retard we win. Not DVH's fault someone tried to play hero

This would make sense if recruiting was slipping or something. a bad couple weeks and you’re trying to force him out

I honestly think our recruiting is overrated or the coaching and development is just that bad. None of the guys are panning out for all of the hype. We miss the talent scouting and developing by Vitello and Johnson/Jorn.

Years. Too much talent and too many squandered opportunities. Do you actually think things will tilt any more toward us with the way that we’ve been regressing? Martin, Moore, and several other players have or did noticeably regress during their time here. We are getting beat and out coached by teams like A&M. Our earlier season record doesn’t matter. Winning titles does and we aren’t and havent. We have a ballpark that puts minor league parks to shame and we’re wasting it making wishes instead of hard decisions that have to be made. And I asked a question. I didn’t say I wanted him fired.

We still could have won. Perhaps our coach might have used his ability to call time, walk to the mound, and calm the team down. It was a missed foul ball with two outs. Last time I checked, that counts as a strike. But no, we sat on our hands and next pitch, “boom”…

Carson screwed it up. If it was anyone else, it would be caught. Not the fault of DVH but that team took it from him.

I don’t follow baseball as close as the other sports, but it seems our pitchers are fine just not a lot of depth, and our batters have all regressed.

LSU and Vandy both have elite recruiting and great coaches and are probably going to be 2-seeds as well. It’s not just us.
It’s odd though how many of our “can’t-miss” prospects we land don’t work out. Stovall was a shoe-in for freshman of the year and was average at best while others like Kjerstad and Martin weren’t ranked that highly yet came in right away and raked. Guys like Jordan McFarland and Luke Bonfield never really lived up to the hype either.

Johnson is the first name that pops up for a DVH replacement.
Would he leave an MLB pitching coach job for a college head coach job? Who knows. Maybe? He's from Sherwood after all.
Definitely be my first call.

His salary would at least double, if not triple. He only makes 350K to 400K from what I recall. He's my first choice too after we make Vitello say no.

Van Horn is cursed, and he will never win a national title. His teams get too tight in big situations, and I think it is because of his demeanor. During a gigantic close game, he always has the look on his face like he's ready for the rug to be pulled out from under him.
It's also amazing to me how, especially on some... Other boards... People go ape shite when you point out that this team has been overrated all year and Van Horn is probably never going to win the big one.
If I were Hunter, I'd tell him immediately that he has to fire his hitting coach, and if he doesn't want to do that, I'd tell him, and then call Tony V.

Yeah it looks like Johnson was making 230K here his last year, and now makes 350K with the Twins with incentives to 400K
I think he would take it IMO.

I'm all for blaming the coaches but the players have to take a large amount of the blame too.
So many draft eligible veterans who can't handle or deal with the pressure - it's mental - not focusing on what adjustments and things they have control of improving.
Basically when Tennessee clinched the SEC our players shut down the season. Went out with a whimper at home against Vandy and @ Alabama with the division still possible. They were a win-lose-win-lose team the last two weeks of the season and now have lost 4 straight, last two coming to teams we lost series to in the regular season and no motivation to beat them in Hoover.
Last 19 games: 8-11.
Starting pitching has imploded as Noland isn't an ace and he's giving up 5 runs a start his last 3-4 outings.
Smith tiring and he's gotten more wild and Wiggins is reliable with his walks and wild pitches - constant trouble.
I wonder in the Regional if we don't start Tygart or Ramage for a couple innings and go on to the next guy.
