How old is Butch Davis?

I honestly feel bad for these defensive players. These poor kids just aren’t sec caliber. Bobby has them playing hard they just aren’t any good.

They need to spend a week only practicing onside kicks, that's the only way you're going to help this defensive roster.

Is that TWill lack of recruiting, bringing transfers? Not having a FOOTBALL GM?

Maybe we need to go to cue cards like old school Oregon? Or hell even Texas uses them now.

Yes.

I looked it up and started a thread.

In-state recruiting fell of a cliff with Twill on the defensive side of the ball while being shored up offensively with Petrino.

This is if ignoring if these players have made an impact for the teams the signed with, but according to the recruiting sites they had the bodies, skills, and ability to play at the SEC level, other SEC program thought so as well and signed them.

If these sites and other SEC coaches thinks a player from Arkansas has the ability to play at the SEC level on defense, you have to get them in recruiting and it's you job to coach them up to contribute at this level, no?

Maybe this is a better strategy than combing the portal for guys at the G5 and FCS level for a defense?

The smartest and most plugged in dude over at On3 has been saying this for 2-3 seasons.

I haven’t cared enough lately but he also notes the only guys contributing in our current defense are high school recruits.

Said the previous staffs strategy around high school recruiting was abysmal and we’re paying for horrific portal activity, mostly on the defensive side of the ball.

Jim Knowles is about to be unemployed. Throw a big bag at him.

The problem is and it’s just a small problem, Bobby is a twat. Most defensive coaches don’t want to work with or for him. Because his practices are like frick the defense, we will be perfect on offense. Yes that’s cool for 500+ yards a game. It isn’t for getting any stops.

Now Florida is looking :\

If we don’t hire Petrino, he would tear it up at Florida.

We could have had pick of the litter last year.

Another in the long list of horrible failures by HY.

Petrino is a bird in hand.

He isn't going to to be up for any HC jobs on the P4 level.

A smart AD would explore the birds in the bush and try to lock up a bigger catch before Thanksgiving, but we have HY as AD so the bird in hand will also be squandered unless someone else makes the decision for him.

Maybe so. That's always been the word on the street anyway. But looking into his previous stint here we were as follows:

Total Defense Scoring Defense
2008 73rd / 375 yds per game 93rd / 31.2 ppg
2009 89th / 401 yds 78th / 25.1 ppg
2010 36th / 338 yds 47th / 23.4 ppg
2011 51st / 362 yds 27th / 20.3 ppg

Not saying we were world beaters but his defenses certainly improved as he and Willy & company started bringing in their own defensive recruits. He must've been doing something somewhat right even if the offense was his baby.

We are currently around 131st in total defense and 123rd in scoring defense. We are also ranked well into the hundreds in virtually every other defensive statistic.

I remember his previous defenses here playing hard and mostly disciplined.

IMO, if we our current defense was ranked at 2010 or 2011 levels our record would be flipped if not better. I certainly think we'd have one the last two and handily, even with Greens boneheaded, costly decisions.

Yeah people have are dumb. His defenses were just fine during the peak of the SEC dominance. Let him get his own full staff and work the portal I think he’d field a serviceable defense

Of course there’s going to be a huge number of major program openings this year. Watch us go winless and still hire Bobby because everyone else on our list goes elsewhere.

We will beat Auburn and Texas. Their offenses are so bad they will make us think our defense is halfway decent.

If he beats Texas on the road it doesn't matter what anybody else wants he will be the head coach next year. I'm still not convinced that's the best option or a terrible option. I can't put my finger on it. At this point though we stink, we've stunk for a long time and probably will for the good part of the near future so whatever.
