Per Biloxi Sun Herald: LINK

quote:

Bielema’s name first emerged for the USM job in a Nov. 23 report by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg and he tweeted Monday that Bielema was considered a top candidate along with a couple of other names under consideration — Tulane offensive coordinator Will Hall and Baylor defensive coordinator Ron Roberts.

Also on Monday, Steven Godfrey of Banner Society tweeted that Bielema had “interviewed for multiple openings, including Southern Miss, where he’s considered a top candidate.”

From what I’ve heard on the ground in Mississippi, Bielema isn’t currently considered a top candidate for the USM job. The reporting of Bielema as being in the running for the job instantly created chatter among the Southern Miss faithful, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll go further than that.

Bielema is currently on the staff with the New York Giants, serving as an outside linebackers coach/senior assistant.

Whoever takes over the USM football team next will have a significant rebuilding job on their hands. A long list of players have decided to leave the program and transfer, including redshirt senior quarterback Jack Abraham.

The Golden Eagles are 2-7 and have had their last two games, UAB and UTEP, canceled because of COVID-19.

To say the move makes no sense is an understatement, but that program is in shambles and he could probably get them back to mediocre at best.

From a strictly situational standpoint, Bert needs to be in a hotbed for talent so he doesn't have to put in any effort in recruiting. At Wisonsin, he regularly recruited classes in the 40s and 50s.

As of Today, Wiscy is sitting at 16th for the 2021 class. Last year they were 26th.

He also didn't get any recruiting knowledge in the NFL, so hes still going to suck at it. Plus don't see "Karma" Jen living in fricking Hattiesburg. Hey, at least they got casino's, though, I guess...

Hopefully he gets some job and Arkansas is off the hook for what remains on the $11 mil buyout, but I doubt he pulls the trigger on anything and just milks the Hogs for more money.

He's probably just interviewing to fulfill the buyout terms and avoid another lawsuit. Hey, maybe he can go to Kansas when Les is fired for winning 3 games in 2 yrs.

Chad Morris would probably be better choice for them

I guess she can go back to being an escort.

Idk. Bert seemed like a good recruiter, when he didn't pass out on their couch.

As I said before. Can they keep him off the sauce? Will he drop his tendency of trying to make Midwest coaches with no connection to the South work?

If he did that he could probably turn things around, eventually, at Southern Miss.

That, however, is the problem. Do you turn over a major rebuild to a drunk who doesn't really have any ties to your area?

Bert isn't head coaching material. He even said he liked the NFL better than the college game.
