If Gaeckle was just somewhat efficient we would have enough pitching.
His fall off has really hurt this years team.
And some of the other returning pitchers haven't improved.
Offensively we need Aloy, Souza, Niu, and Pompey to cut down on the strikeouts.
Cannot have that many guys strikeout as much as they have.

Souza needs to be benched.
His defense today has been laughably bad.

Gaeckle and Fisher regressing to the worst form of their careers is a killer. Season ending can't overcome killer.

5 (!!) errors today, and that’s not counting the dropped pop up in left field. Souza is playing little league defense at 2nd.
And for frick's sake Kozeal, throw the goddamn ball to 1st base like you mean it. Rutenbar is about to tear his groin from all this unnecessary stretching.

I blame DVH and Hobbs for trying to force him as the Friday starter. He already failed as a starter last year and had to be sent back to the pen. We’ve seen this movie already.
So instead of selling out for arms in the pen we just hoped that Gaeckle and Fisher grew out of it and would elevate into starter roles.

Top 10 facilities, garbage pitching staff.
Sadly, DVH, Hobbs and Thompson are a package deal.

DVH is starting to get older. I don't think he has it in him to move on from either.
Hobbs isn't terrible, but I don't think we've seen too many pitchers improve from one year to the next. Kopps is one, but everyone else seemed to stay the same or regress.
Thompson struggles to evaluate a lot of the kids we get, and to his credit he gets a good one or two occasionally. The problem I have with him is that he cannot coach up the guys struggling to be more productive.
I watch Georgia hitters and it's night and day difference to our guys. Which leads me to believe that Nate is overall a bad evaluator of talent for how he wants to coach offense.

On the Nate subject..
How many of the average players he's coached have improved one year to the next? Not very many.
Guys like Souza. I thought he looked good at the plate early on as a freshman but since then he's just gotten worse.
Kozeal has somehow regressed from last year. That dude was steady Eddie last year. Now he just looks uncomfortable up there.
Kuhio seems to have regressed as well.
Helfrick is about the only guy on this team that has steadily improved at the plate.
As far as the newer guys I really like Ruiz. He was a great pick up.
Pompey should be a great pick up, but he still swings at off speed down and away. You would think the coaches could tell him to lay off that shite. He's got a metric shite ton of power, but if he's chasing trash that power is going to waste. Can't get favorable counts when you get down in the count.
Niu is just not good. He swings and misses too much at pitches in the zone.
Stewart looked promising early on, but has fallen off a cliff in conference.
So 4 transfers and only 1 has been productive throughout the season. NOT GOOD

EVERY throw to first had Ruiz either stretching, fielding on a hop, or not catching the ball due to piss poor throw.

Our middle infielders were unbelievably horrible today.
Kozeal was lazy on every single throw to 1st that Rutenbar almost tore his hamstring with all the unnecessary stretching, and Souza looked completely lost in the field.

Is this where we say Bama was just overrated more than us turning it on or do we buy back in on this team?
I think we have the answer.
