Lebby was kind of a dumb choice to replace Arnett, sure. And even I think MSU was being too uppity by firing Arnett after just one year, but they were happy with Mike Leach, and he died on them. So that poor guy just didn't have a chance and was an interim from the start. And if they're unhappy with that, they shouldn't have hired someone with no HC experience.
But Hugh Freeze? That guy's won everywhere he's been except Auburn so far, so if he ends up tanking, the move itself still would have made sense.
But none of that is the point. The point is these programs are actually trying. They're not keeping dud coaches for five or six years while hoping it clicks. Going through 2017 Bert was a hopeless feeling. The two years of Chad that followed were hopeless feelings from the minute he was announced. Another year of Pittman is a hopeless feeling - a guy who shouldn't have gotten the job in the first place.
I can handle losing. I can't handle the administration not giving a frick, and the fans tricking themselves into thinking we don't deserve to at least have a frick given. We have fans talking about missing a bowl game another year, or barely limping to 6–6, and Pittman still keeping his job, for God's sake.

Odom just took a major hit, their starting QB just quit and said Odom wasn't paying him his NIL he promised. Yikes.

I don't want Odom here either, he failed as a HC at Missou.
Don't hate the player, hate the nil game.

All joking aside, I do not see Odom being here now... Unless this story was broken in some weird way into a positive in his relocating because "Vegas" doesn't have the money for NIL

Ok, it's Vegas... Prop bets anyone?
How long till it is settled?
Over / Under if he returns to the team?
How much will this affect the rest of their season?

Copied from elsewhere. If true that’s a ****** move to quit on your team like this.
UPDATE: UNLV insider Joe Arrigo is currently live on a Twitter space. He says Sluka went into Coach Odom’s office on Monday and said he needed $300k to stay. Odom said that was not happening and Sluka cleared out his locker. Sluka skipped practice on Tuesday and posted his intention to leave that night. Arrigo believes Sluka got an NIL agent after the Kansas game who got into Sluka’s ear about making more NIL money. The re may or may not be another school involved, but the timing of this implies that this is a play to try to strong arm UNLV into a payday now. I will continue to update if he says anything else interesting

You mean to tell me that college football coaches are making more now than they were 10 years ago? Truly incredible.

I don't want Odom, but that doesn't seem like it's his fault.

Huh? How is him promising a recruit $100K to come there and then not paying him not his fault? Odom is toast.
Odom Severely Undercut as Possible Future Razorbacks Coach
Odom Severely Undercut as Possible Future Razorbacks Coach
quote:
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — For those Arkansas fans who put themselves to bed each night to dreams of UNLV coach Barry Odom one day walking the sidelines in Razorback Stadium as the Hogs head coach, it's probably time to put those to rest now.
Every coach in the conference, plus neighboring Big 12 schools, will immediately point to Sluka walking out and the comments his family publicly made against Odom and his program. Like it or not, the narrative is UNLV promised its quarterback $100,000, then told him they'd pay up $12,000 and actually paid $3,000.
quote:
But we're not going to have Barry Odom just stand up and say, 'F you, I'm not paying you, get your arse out on the field.'"

It was an assistant that made the offer verbally, allegedly. This came up after they beat Kansas and Houston and before he burned his redshirt ability and after he hired a new NIL agent.
UNLV claims they've paid him what he was owed (3k/month) for four months.
Tow sides to every story. UNLV is claims are every extortionish.
The bad press with NIL probably helps him with Hunter not hurt...

Who ever thought that? First I ever heard of it.

Who knows, just glad Barry is donezo Hunter would have hired his arse 100%.

Wait. Is this supposed to paint Odom in a bad light? I love the shite out of this quote. Hell, I don't even want Odom, but to hell with these prima donna shite heads.
Posted on 9/27/24 at 9:26 am to Arkapigdiesel
Of course, he didn't pay a player his NIL.

And THIS is why there has to be written contracts between the 'collectives; and the players, enforceable by both sides.
This shite has gotten out of hand.
Who knows what the truth is, but I tend to side with Odom.
ETA - I understood it was $3,000/month for 4 months that they paid ($12,000 total.)

I could see it both ways. Easy to imagine a kid signing an NIL agent and letting them get in his ear about getting more money. Could also very easily see the boosters offering 100k, seeing that QB fail to even get to a 50% completion percentage, then deciding the investment isn't worth it in hindsight.
Need more info.

This was always the prediction. By redshirt week, the people who wanted money and weren’t getting it would sit.
I’m just glad it happened to Odom, because Hunter doesn’t dig deep for coaches. Just like Jeff Long, if it’s more than an arm reach he isn’t going for it. Thankfully Chicken man was friends with Calipari.
