I believe if we can become great on either side of the line of scrimmage it will help tremendously at developing the guys on the other side because when you have to compete with all conference caliber players every day in practice you’ll have no choice but to get better. Iron sharpens iron and all that

Had 500+ yards and 5 TDs. Averaged 25.7 yards per catch.

Seemed to be a little feast or famine, games with 4 catches for 137 yards and then games with like 2 catches for 14 yards. I would guess he's mainly used on deep balls with his size/speed and most of his catches went for big yardage but wouldn't expect him to be a big volume guy.

Could work out well for us considering our offensive style of wanting to be a power run team first, having a guy outside who can take the top off could keep the defense a little more honest

I'm favor of big body WRs that present match up difficulties for a CB. You will get one on one opportunities downfield and a 6'5" guy can win a lot of jump balls.

At what point do WR become too tall and should probably be TE?

Or is it based on height? Weight? Speed?

Just see them like super tall quarterbacks, after a certain height it becomes a detriment. Your throwing motion becomes more and more delayed.

I think in our system it’s tough to find a guy who’s “too tall”. I mean one of the 2 best pass catchers in nfl history , Calvin Johnson and Rob gronkowski were 6’6 and 6’7 respectively. I think with as much as we run the ball we will have lots of one on one matchups which is why our coaching staff is going after big bodies who can win one on one matchups and why we have 3 4 star tight ends committed for this upcoming class

IIRC the top WRs at Baylor were usually tall and fast.

Probably a bit of weight involved. Though the big thing might be blocking ability. A lot WRs aren't that good at blocking, not all of them mind you, but quite a few. You need to be able to block effectively to be a good TE.

I'd imagine change of direction/quickness is the biggest factor. If you're 6'8" and can run crisp routes, then great. But if not, it's not going to work in major college football. And frankly, most dudes that are 6'6"+ just aren't going to be able to make those cuts because of their height.

Being a TE you have to put enough weight on. If you want to know the difference simply check out trey know freshman year to this year. He started as a wr. Didn't have enough speed for that, but could add enough weight and learned to block very well to be a TE

Matt Landers commits to Arkansas

quote:

Former Toledo and Georgia wide receiver Matt Landers has committed to play his final season with Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Landers, 6-5, 200, went public with his decision on Sunday, a few days after an official visit in Fayetteville.

Landers, a 2017 product of St. Petersburg (Fla.), said the Hogs offered him a perfect situation to finish his collegiate career around people he'd known from Georgia, including Pittman, special teams coordinator Scott Fountain, safety Latavious Brini, and others.

"Really just a great fit. Great organization. Great offensive coordinator, great receivers coach and great staff. Like I said just familiar faces."

Landers, 6-5, 200, is a former three-star recruit who signed with Georgia in the Class of 2017. He spent his first four seasons with the Dawgs, racking up 12 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown in 24 games played.

The Florida native then transferred to Toledo, where he caught 20 passes for 514 yards (25.70 YPC) and a team-high 5 touchdowns in 2021. With the Hogs, Landers will likely be asked to step in and immediately contribute to a position group that had its share of question marks in the spring. Arkansas is looking to replace the production of 2021 All-American and 2022 first-round draft pick Treylon Burks, in addition to two other top-four receivers from the 2021 squad in De'Vion Warren and Tyson Morris.

Landers is Arkansas' second incoming transfer at wide receiver this offseason, joining former five-star Jadon Haselwood of Oklahoma. Haselwood transferred to Fayetteville in January and went through spring drills with the team.

Arkansas has now added a total of eight scholarship transfers this offseason, including Landers and Haselwood at wide receiver, defensive end Landon Jackson (LSU), defensive end Jordan Domineck (Georgia Tech), defensive tackle Terry Hampton (Arkansas State), linebacker Drew Sanders (Alabama), cornerback Dwight McGlothern (LSU) and safety/nickel Latavious Brini (Georgia).

Landers has the size and speed that you want in a WR but he had work ethic and hands issues at UGA. Hopefully, his time at Toledo has improved on those two things.
