IAN JACKSON SCORES 24, UPDATES RECRUITMENT

quote:

Ian Jackson, the No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2024, was in action on Thursday night and turned in a 24-point, four-rebound performance in his Cardinal Hayes (N.Y.) High School team’s loss to a loaded Duncanville (Texas) High School side. Following the game, Jackson looked ahead to his Jan. 6 visit to North Carolina, saying he’s excited to solidify his relationship with the UNC staff, but he also named two other schools he hopes to visit in the future.

“I want to get down to Arkansas and Texas, for sure. I don’t have dates but they are new ones I want to at least see,” Jackson said.

Jackson said he's in the process of building a bond with Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman, and while the relationship is still in its early phase, he knows he’d like to at least see the school's campus with his own eyes.

“I’ve been talking to coach Musselman on the regular and he’s getting me more familiar with his program and all that,” Jackson said.

Jackson’s big night on the floor may have come in defeat, but it featured some impressive instances of him creating for himself and others. And while he needs to become a better ball-handler and work on ball security in general in the years to come, his athleticism, motor and shooting ability will have him in the conversation for the top spot until the end of the cycle. As of now, Kentucky still feels like the slight favorite to land his eventual commitment, as Jackson called them “a priority school” on Thursday night. The race seems to be tightening, however.

NATURAL SCORER: Ian Jackson

quote:

What he did: There aren’t a lot of ways that Jackson didn’t put the ball through the hoop on this weekend. The five-star junior is a true three-level scorer capable of hiring you off the dribble, in transition and from behind the arc. He finished Friday’s game against loaded Duncanville with a game-high 23 points that included four 3-pointers, layups through traffic and at least one transition dunk. Jackson has some work to do when it comes to ball security, but his scoring ability speaks for itself and has for some time.

Recruitment: Kentucky, North Carolina and Oregon seem to be serious players. Jackson also said that he also hopes to visit Texas and Arkansas down the road. A decision could come as early as this spring.

I can’t imagine you’d want to play for someone like that. He may also get fired

Curious if they'd let him out of the LOI with Beard likely out the door.

If this Beard situation ends up being bad enough to cost him his job, I gotta think they would let anyone walk that no longer wanted to play for the program. They'll be in damage control mode and the last thing they'll want is blow back from the media if they refuse to let kids out of their LOIs.

But it's Texas, so nothing would suprise me.

After seeing the police report there's about 0% chance Beard survives this.

The question is will Muss put the full court press back on Holland or point and laugh?

We'd instantly welcome Ron.

And yes Texas would release him from his LOI just like in football. I believe they have to under these circumstances also.

Holland and Brazile next year would be a great core, even if Trevon is out the first half still rehabbing.

I just wasn't sure if he burnt any bridges at the end, or if he played it cool.

Nah, not at all. Most still believe he prefers Muss as a coach but Texas won out with just as much hype and build within the program + home + brand new half a billion dollar arena.

End of the day we need to update or build a new arena and soon. Rapidly approaching 30 years for BWA and have went the lipstick route several times already.

You take him if he wants to come. If anything, just so he doesn't end up kicking our arse or ending our season somewhere else.

Yes, a take if he's interested.
These days, it's only for a year anyway.

Look who’s entering the portal again. Guess west Texas isn’t all it’s cracked up to be .

He broke his foot and has been in a cast since the season started so won’t play this year.

A lot of smoke at tech regarding their basketball program. Might see a few more this year or at the end of the year.

“I’ve been a little critical of Trentyn Flowers in the past because his production didn’t always match the potential provided by his tools, but, in my mind, the tide on that front is starting to turn. He seems as comfortable as he’s ever been at Combine Academy, where he transferred prior to the season. He’s cut down on bad shots and is becoming more assertive with the ball in his hands. He’s scoring off the dribble and through contact better than he ever has and has had games where he’s shot the ball well from deep. He still needs to add weight and become a better defender, but everything is trending in the right direction since his transfer. He dropped from five to four stars in the last update, but is playing like a prospect that deserves that fifth star back.” - Cassidy

ON ADDITIONAL VISITS

“I’ll probably wait until after the season, but I’ll probably take some more visits. I’ll probably go to Arkansas and maybe Texas.”

ON ARKANSAS

“Arkansas is kind of new in my recrutiment by me and Coach [Eric Musselman] have been talking on the regular. We’re building a good relationship. He’s trying to get me to be more familiar with the program and all that, so I’m interested in learning more.”

quote:

ON WHAT HE WANTS IN A COLLEGE

“Just a place that will help me become a pro. That’s the big thing for me. I’ll pick whichever school can help me get to where I want to go and have me most ready when I, hopefully, enter the NBA Draft.”

ON THE POSSIBILITY OF RECLASSIFICATION

“That’s up in the air, really. If, after the season, I feel like I’m ready to go and be good at the college level, then I’ll go. If not, I won’t.”

Five-star wing Trentyn Flowers is still feeling out the recruitment process. Flowers, who is 6-foot-8, 180 pounds has taken official visits to Oklahoma, Georgia State, Louisville, Creighton, and has not set his fifth official visit. Flowers will also unofficially visit Arkansas.

“I should be going to Arkansas unofficially and I still have one more official left,” he said. “I still have to figure out where I’ll take that visit to.”
