Arkansas doesn't have that kind of depth to handle a nine game schedule. Look at what happened last year with all those injuries and the eight SEC game format is brutal enough.

No need to add another game and it make it more suicidal.

That is a pussy answer.

Using one year as your barometer is dumb.

There is nothing wrong with a 9 game schedule. At that point, you simply add 3 rent a wins and it is a wash. Arkansas normally plays a P5 or a team on the level of a P5 OOC every season anyway, so it is no different.

This is true, but if the NCAA still requires a P5 OOC game then that doesn’t work. Plus, you lose a potential interesting game with a non-conference P5 team that we don’t play very often (Notre Dame, Michigan, etc)

The latter part would suck. But the NCAA requirement can still be met with shitty OOC teams. There are plenty in the Pac 12, Big Ten, ACC, and Big 12. I also believe that requirement will go away over the next few years as more and more leagues go to 9-10 game schedules.

Here is the future, not so distant reality...The CFP is expanding...My belief is we are looking more towards a 10-11 game regular season in the not so distant future. Timeline wise, It would not surprise me to see all the leagues go to a 10 game conference schedule, similar to how it was done in the Covid year. The CFP will soon be at 12 teams, which will add multiple weeks to the season. Not long after that, it will likely be expanded to 16 teams.

Just my opinion. Once the 10 game league schedules happen, schools then will start losing revenue because you would drop from 7 home games down to 5 home games. TV contracts would need to be renegotiated at that point though.

Exactly my thoughts.
Last year of Bert and the two seasons of Morris broke me.

Do I miss tailgating and attending games. Sure, the food, the games and friends.

Minor League football is where this is heading in the near future and I despise it.

I'll watch from afar but will never be invested in Razorback football again.

I’m good with 9 games as long as this is the structure. We are doing our current OOC P5 games as home and homes already so the “we’d lose a home game” argument doesn’t work here.

If they still require us to keep the one OOC P5 game then it’s an 8 game schedule as the only option for me.

8 game conference format (7+1 permanent), and we get stuck with Mizzou still?

How is it we get dicked around with every damn change that gets made in this conference? Hoped HY would negotiate something better

Rumors are they are pushing it a year. So that first year will be 8 games, they want ESPN to pay for the extra good game. ESPN has said no we have a contract for all SEC games.

Sankey is saying we gave you 10 SEC games in 2020 and it was your highest ranked games. Pay us for this extra one or don’t get it. Now ESPN is being sold off by ABC/Disney.. and are saying we broke, give us free stuff.

So the thing that should happen, the 9 games 6 rotating 3 permanent, probably won’t happen until a year or so later.

Our true permanent rival is this money whoring conference.

Any year we have a good team, they say hey you should play the toughest of the East this year. Also when you have that team on the ropes, the refs will help them out.

We barely go 7-6 with basically the whole team returning, haven't beat Bama in 15 years, have beat A&M twice in like 10, lose to Mizzou all the time and have lost to multiple DII teams at home in the last 5 years.

Yet here we are talking about the schedule being our problem in football.

Here’s the deal…since the last expansion, it was a matter of time before everything changed in college football. So I really don’t give a shite honestly.

Give me basketball mega death conference and give me baseball mega death conference, and I’ll show up to watch a football game or two and sell my tickets to the shitty games I don’t attend.

My give a shite meter petered out a few years back honestly. It’s all a damn money grab at this point.

Reports are we are going after North Carolina and Virginia Tech from the ACC if they get out. Not Clemson or the Florida schools. All about eyeballs not quality.

It did metastasize my apathy overall, but I’m sure others feel the same way when you see Arkansas, LSU and Florida in the World Series every year.

It’s really comes down to recruiting, we financially back the program, and as Jimmy Johnson said “It’s not the X’s and the O’s, but the Jimmys and the Joes that make the difference.”

Pittman has become a great base builder, hopefully we get a good general that can keep it going after him.

If Petrino didn't fall off the bike then Arkansas would average 8 wins a year. But before he got here Arkansas was averaging 7 wins a year.

agreed but how do we overcome it when we’re still losing to teams like liberty last year and almost losing to Missouri state. That’s not a talent issue.

Agreed, but how do you force a career OL coach to do so much better when he is absolutely learning the hard way?

It takes time man, lotsa time for a dude from that background!

The best teaching moments are when you lose games because it exposes the weaknesses about yourself as the coach plus the team.

You can't get it from winning as people overlook those errors.

Sam is learning on the job and the Liberty game was a good example of a teaching moment, never let your guard down.

Sam said himself that last year was disappointing which at least is encouraging because some coaches we had that made excuses and not make any staff changes. Sam didn't waste time and made changes that helped improve the weaknesses on his team.
