Would take him in a split second. He has one of the best defenses in the country despite having very little talent to work with. Top 5 in tackles for loss, I believe. One of the best defenses in the country at forcing turnovers (absolute must with a quick strike offense), and one of the best in the nation at sacking the QB as well. Guy is damn good.

Can we add Kuligowski, too? Please?

If that happened:

Actually Coach Kuligowski just got promoted to Assistant Head Coach at Miami. It would take a decent hump of change to get him here

Grinch recruited Texas while at Wyoming and Georgia during his time at Missouri. Most of his recruiting ties appear to be in the south.

it's always interesting to see how people view these things.
are we looking for young hungry and inexperienced or established and known commodities both flaws and strengths?
I think it takes the right mix of both for success to happen. Chavis is almost a good fit if we accept he won't recruit.
grinch seems like another pop up low info commodity. I haven't seen anyone post his weaknesses on here? what is he bad at? do we even know or will we be the ones to figure it ?

I know he took wazzu from 102 in 2014 to like 82, 64, and now a top 15 defense with way less talent. Would be a great hire.

Thanks to Bert, our defensive players are shite for the most part. The fallacy of the switch to the 3-4 was just a ploy to save Bert's job.
Curl
Pulley
Agim
Scoota
TJ Smith
Capps
Healthy Greenlaw
The only players that could be legit SEC
The new DC will have to put in major work with a couple of recruiting classes to get us up to SEC speed.
Not sure "Chief" is that guy.

You can add Greenlaw to that list

If he can stay healthy, yup

With probably a quarter the talent as Chief, Wazzu had the 43rd ranked defense in scoring efficiency... Nearly 20 spots higher than Chavis... I'll take the Cougar...

I think Grant Morgan could be legit

Could be, now not
Just a peak at what we have returning that are legit.
Basically Bert left us with a better offense than he did defensive.
Defense still wins championships in tSEC.
DC hire is critical

I think guide could be decent as well as montaric brown. I think our defenses biggest problem is that they're soft and slow but that can be fixed through conditioning sosa used to be exolosive. I do think we lack talent at linebacker and a little at safety though

Could be wanna be is all well and good. I just posted the players that stood out against SEC talent.
Stay healthy, avoid Herb and develop is the key.
Huge task for the new DC rolling into the 2018 season.

Well, as it applies to the HC choice, the answer was kinda young, hungry, an inexperienced. The reasoning behind it hopefully being that the infusion of energy, work ethic, a sound foundation in a scheme proven to work, and connections to fertile, and desperately needed recruiting ground, brings the sucess we are after.
None of these things can be said of Chavis, except maybe marginal scheme success. Hopefully, nobody is fooling themselves into thinking they can expect any real improvement in his performance going forward, given his age, and the difference he will be dealing with in the caliber of recruits between LSU, aTm, and Arkansas.

In what way? Experience is literally the only thing I can see that Chavis brings to the table.

Which will really be the case for anyone, correct? I have no doubt you could pose the weakness question about Venables on Oklahomo, and even Clempson message boards, with no shortage of replies.
The bet on someone like Grinch would be that he would work himself up to speed, work to find the bodies he needs to make his defense work, and learn the things he needs to know, through humility, desire, energy, work ethic, and the drive to continue to build his brand.
Again, none of those things can be said of Chavis, who is essentially banking on his laurels to get him a job that he's 'good enough' for.
Just my opinion.

I think Montaric Brown will see plenty of playing time this year, along with Calloway.
Secondary has plenty of talent, but not much depth.

Grinch would be a tremendous hire.
Our defense needs to be built around taking the ball away with Morris.

This would be an exceptional hire. Dude is young and hungry (not Bert Like) and engaged. His recruiting isn't back either.
As I said earlier, Yes Please...

Chavis was once a great DC, but he's yet to prove he can be great with a high-scoring offense. Grinch has already proven that he can. How many other DC's have proven this ability? I can think of Venables and Steele.
