I would be interested to hear your opinions as to why you disagree.

Oh you’re actually serious?
I’d just assumed you were bullshitting.

I'm actually not.
And for the record, I couldn't stand Hootie as our coach.

He's borderline retarded for one

I understand a lot of people don't like Houston Nutt. I don't really either. At least not as a football coach.
But he could tick off a lot of "pros" on our list of potential ADs. I have no doubt about that.
He would be an excellent fund raiser here. He could set up a pretty savvy recruiting "system" here. He can spot talent. He is passionate. He is great in front of a microphone.

It won't be Terry Don Phillips.

You’re asking why I don’t want a guy who ripped apart our fan base, backstabbed coaches and players, held a vendetta against a freshman to the point where friends were hatemailing said player, actively sabotaged recruiting for two years, constantly leveraged other jobs against us for money, was notorious for being lazy, and just sued his last school....to be our AD.
You’re seriously asking me this?

Nutt kept himself surrounded by all his old buddies as assistant coaches. He would reassign them to new positions year in and year out when we were weak at one spot.
Know the one position we struggled at?
quarterback development.
Nutt ran off the only good QB coach we had, Joe Ferguson.
Nutt is a fun, motivating, homer type guy, and that's it. If he were anything more, he'd be employed in some type of coaching or admin capacity somewhere else.

Yup.
Those are all coaching related objections. I'm talking about the position of athletic director.
I mean, he probably won't get the job, but I honestly think we could do worse.
I think he would be an upgrade over Long, to be honest.

BoarEdward: I’m with the other guys on this one, HDN is divisive and wouldn’t be good for ‘Everything Arkansas’.
Remember that saying, might hear it again soon.

It's a cut throat business. You think Jeff Long is actually an upstanding guy?
And Pioneerbasketball: I am not saying I want him either. I'm just curious what other folks think.
I think Houston Nutt would be a good AD here. Do I like him as a human being? No. Did I like him as a coach here? For the first six years or so,yes, I did.

Being an AD is not a coaching emeritus job anymore, and guys like Alvarez are few and far between now. It’s not as simplistic as hiring an old coach and having him woo boosters.
Collegiate athletics is a multimillion dollar business and has to be strategically run as such.

we will be looking for an AD with Arkansas ties that understand what the program means to the entire state of Arkansas and not just NWA. That doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies that we’re about to upgrade with this next hire.
This doesn't have to be a bad thing. Jus thave to make sure if you hire a head cheerleader / booster relations guru , that you also pair it with a COO, CFO and other people to run the business side
As for hiring coaches, it is an absolute crapshoot. No AD has some great insight on judging football coaches, they just get lucky as sh**.

It really isn't just about that. It is hard to explain all the NWA vs the rest of Arkansas thing if you havn't lived here for a significant amount of time. This line just reeks of trying to find someone that fits a very specific mold and not just the best AD available. Just MO.
