It’s not so much that he was looking great, it was just the outside hope that he’d suddenly/randomly find it again and be a contributor of some kind. But now that’s for sure not gonna happen

It was pretty clear something was off or wrong. Shoulder surgery likely.

His release has always made me wince a little. So much whip action.

I’m not sure why anyone is melting over this.
I think it’s just an odds thing. Between Tygart, McEntire and Molina we really need two of them to carry a heavy load this postseason.

I hate to hear this about tygart, he was doing well early on. Maybe folks will cut him some slack since we now know he had an injury problem.

I honestly think the most trusted arms right now outside of Hagen are Wood, Gaeckle, Foutch, and Faherty. I think Molina has just about worked his way fully back into the circle of trust and we’ll keep matching Hewlett up against lefties.

Tygart, McEntire, and Bybee are probably the next layer. Will go to them but the leash is short or will go to them to try and eat up innings in a blowout.

Then you’ve got Dossett and Coil. Starting to really scrape the bottom of the barrel.

And if we see Frank or Carter, things are going very good or very bad.

Since making this post, we have now confirmed to lose both Tygart and Dossett for the season.

Will be interesting to see what DVH does with the lineup.

He was asked about Diggs and he confirmed he had been batting him leadoff down the stretch to get him more AB's in an effort to get him going. He said something to the effect of "I was playing for the future, which is now" — judging by that comment, I highly doubt Diggs bats higher than 6th or 7th today (otherwise DVH is crazy).

I didn't watch the full press conference, but I'd also be curious what his plans for the OF are and whether we see Wilmsmeyer in CF or if he rolls with some combo of Jones/Lovich/Edmunson in LF (and thus Holt in CF). Jones has power but he was exceptionally bad in SEC play (.095 BA), strikes out way too much, and rarely walks (K/BB ratio of nearly 1:6). I think DVH will probably go with Wilmsmeyer in CF in game 1 for his defense.

If Wilms is in CF, Holt will be in LF.

God, I hope we add some competent bats and a new hitting coach in the off season.

That’s a given, so I didn’t denote it specifically.

So does it look like game will start on time or is the weather likely going to delay things?

Good to see Diggs going back to the bottom of the order

Army up 4-1 on UGA and WMU just put up a 5 spot on Kentucky.

Nothing is guaranteed.

Agreed.

As I said earlier today, if DVH hit Diggs anywhere above the 6 or 7 hole then he’s an insane person

Judging by his comments about using the last few weeks to “play for the future” in effort to try to use that leadoff spot to get him more AB’s and opportunities to get going, he wasn’t overly happy with what he saw.

I don’t like having our current best two hitters in Stovall and White at the top. Would rather see them in the 2/3 or 3/4 spot. I don’t hate it because it gives them the best chance to see an extra at bat.

Helfrick in the 5 spot also seems questionable. Would rather have Aloy or Holt there.

I like Helfrick. He hits the absolute piss out of the ball every time he makes contact, and good things often result from hard hit balls.

Aloy is our best power hitter but he swings at a lot of bad pitches and has a penchant for stringing together some very undisciplined AB’s. I think he’s fine in the 6 hole right now.
