If we get Catalon, I could see the coaches dropping Myles Brooks for Sci Martin if we indeed are adding Henry.

Our official recruiting twitter retweeted Catalon so I have no idea

So now we need 2 linebackers really?

3 counting zimos. Yes we need all of them. Our coaches liked walker, and figured he would have improved enough to contribute. I still expect la'france to leave. Baptiste who is now a DE should leave. With Walker gone, and this staffs low trust in morgan leaves us with 2 usable LBs. We need 2 juco guys who can come in and contribute. Andrew parker was a guy i thought might develop by year 2 into a usable player. He was hurt all year though, and barely practiced. Same with billy Ferrell (which is why losing carl williams sucked, but he was one of our lower rated guys, and i think our bigger DEs will be moving inside.)

Juco LBs are as big of a need as the 2 tackles.

The only way i see this the working out to be a perfect class finish is get 2 LBs out of the 3. Though we may need the jucos over russell. I would love to get all 3, but we have to have room for a grad transfer QB. If the shane kid at texas does not come open. I am for dropping brooks, and taking brooks, catalon, and all 3 lbs if that is a possibility.

Don’t forget we already have Zimos committed. If we can get Henry I think it’s possible we stop there and look to add 2-3 next year

Well some are expecting LaFrance and Baptiste to be among those that will transfer out.

We were only allowed 4 to count back because of the scholarships granted to the walk ons. We only signed like 18 last year. After giving 3 to walk ons that leaves you at 21. 25-21=4. 25+4=29. We could have more if morgan was not given a scholarship. He may have been on the depth chart, but was never used enough imo. Our starters stayed in unless hurt. I just feel like they didn't trust him, and if they didnt then why give him one

I don't think Morgan's scholarship affected that at all. As I understand (and I very well may be wrong) giving a walk on a scholarship doesn't affect any recruiting classes if they are third year players or above.

Hayden Henry and Ty Clary were 2 blueshirts the year before that counted against the 18 class and brings it to 20. Not sure who number 21 is but if the Morgan scholarship counted against it then so would McClure and Limpert and then that number would have been at 24. But all 3 of them were 3rd year guys so they didn't count against any recruiting class only the 85

This is correct. IIRC Chase Harrell’s spot is likely the 21.

Good info.

I forgot about them counting back! I thought they were included in the "18" we signed because i thought for some reason we really only signed 16-17 after gerald committed.

Well then i stand corrected. frick chase Harrell. Dude was a waste of a spot. He has one year left, and couldnt get on the field with these shitty recievers!

EtA: walk ons count towards a class unless it has been 2 years since they walked on i believe.

Friendly reminder that you are talking about a college kid.

Any update on catalon. How do we feel about him? I know some people are saying tcu is coming on strong is that mean we are in a fight for him with them or that he is leaning that way and we are on the outside looking in

Everything I’m seeing/ hearing he’s all Hog. TCU’s making a late push but we should have nothing to worry about. As of last week staff was more confident in landing Catalon than they were either Juco OL FWIW

Great news! There is good reason to believe catalon and brooks jr are both silent commits. Some believed it might be nwanna, but they are still reporting 2 silent commits. So it leaves them two.

So with them 2 we are at 27. It seems lakia henry is a flip for 28. It feels like we will end up with ben hicks for 29.

I expect us to dump myles Brooks for catalon. So we could add either sci martin or chris russell. There is a rumor chris Russell's GF is going to arkansas and wants him to tag along. I am not sure which one we would want. Sci is a juco (a young one at that. I believe he would have 3 years), and could be more prepared physically. My issue with him is he was an OLB/DE at LSU and weighed 255. He has slimmed down to 230, but i am concerned with speed/him gaining weight to move to DE. He also told otis in an interview that he see's himself as a pass rusher. Yet plays OLB.

Chris russell on the other hand has the size/speed combo. Vol&shaft said he seen where he ran a 4.48 laser 40. The down side is he plays in 3A in tennessee which isnt much different than it would be here in Arkansas. He would need time to adjust to the speed of the game here. He reminds me of andrew parker. A guy with all of the tools, but played different positions at times, at a very small school, was over looked by most. Then chief offers him, and other SEC schools followed suit.

I am not sure which one i like better at this time. I see the value in both.

Russell 10000%. Speed is what you need in today's game. A 4.48 olb would be a godsend. Of course idk how easy it will be to pull Russell from tenner. Their fans seem pretty confident

More than likely UT bound, but we did offer first, and you never know when chief is visiting him every week.

I think i agree that i want him more as well. I just feel we need immediate depth now at LB, and martin could give that. Also martin could also give us a high end pass rusher on 3rd and long immediately as well, but i am afraid that is all he is. A tweener that would be a situational role player.

ETA: just went and watched some of Russell's senior season highlights. If we can get him we should take him. Point blank. Dude is an atheletic freak, and i will take him forever over martin if that choice is available.

Martin would be a good get as that pass rushing LB/DE hybrid, especially if its true that Dante Walker will have trouble qualifying. Apparently, Walker won't be signing early so the coaches can see/evaluate his grades from the fall semester to see if he has a chance of qualifying by the time he graduates.

Seems Martin is probably a good backup plan. Walker had a ton of hype early, and people backed off. Seems grades was the reason why now. Like i just said. I want russell over martin for a LB spot, but he seems to be in a similar mold to me to walker.

I know Ramsey played DE for us but Martin seems like a similar player. Could be a decent replacement.
