We were only allowed 4 to count back because of the scholarships granted to the walk ons. We only signed like 18 last year. After giving 3 to walk ons that leaves you at 21. 25-21=4. 25+4=29. We could have more if morgan was not given a scholarship. He may have been on the depth chart, but was never used enough imo. Our starters stayed in unless hurt. I just feel like they didn't trust him, and if they didnt then why give him one
I don't think Morgan's scholarship affected that at all. As I understand (and I very well may be wrong) giving a walk on a scholarship doesn't affect any recruiting classes if they are third year players or above.
Hayden Henry and Ty Clary were 2 blueshirts the year before that counted against the 18 class and brings it to 20. Not sure who number 21 is but if the Morgan scholarship counted against it then so would McClure and Limpert and then that number would have been at 24. But all 3 of them were 3rd year guys so they didn't count against any recruiting class only the 85

OL is the one position where we need an ace recruiter.
OL is a position where a coach that can teach technique and develop talent is far more important than an ace recruiter
For example, look at how bad KA was even with Pittmans recruits.

Pittman landed Brian Wallace, Jalen Merrick, Sebastian Tretola...
None of them committed before his first season here was over.
At this same point in his time here as Fry is currently at he had only landed commitments from Skipper and Jovan Pruitt

Beaux Limmer was because of Jeff Traylor. Noah Gatlin by Bert and KA. I really only give credit to Fry for getting Joseph Stone
You left out Winkel and should get credit for Silas Robinson as well since he was committed to him at SMU then they both came here.
Also using that logic by this same point in their time at Arkansas Pittman had only landed one player that ever really played in their career here. Pittman got us Skipper. Randy Shannon got us Kirkland. Pittman didn't get a commitment from anyone else that ever played meaningful snaps here until after his first season was over.
I'll wait to pass judgment on Fry until I see who he lands come signing day and how they contribute over their careers. Right now all I'm worried about is will he improve our line THIS season

Ford left Nutt a team capable of competing for an SEC championship.
No one would have said that before the start of the 98 season. The razorbacks were picked to finish last in the SEC west in 98

Brandon Martin isn't with the team anymore.
"Right now, where he is today, he’s not a part of our roster," Morris said. "Academic issues. Don’t know if he will become part of our roster again. I don’t know that at this point. And that’s where we are with Brandon."

Next year is the easiest schedule we have had in a long time. If he wins less than 7 I'll be a little disappointed. We beat ole miss last year with our terrible coach. And we should have beat mizzou. With state losing their coach to Florida I expect them to fall back to the bottom of the sec west. And vandy should be a win. If CCM is better than CBB, which would be hard not to be, he should win more of those games than he loses imo.
re: Do we have a QB on campus that can run the Chadilac offense
Posted by 870rzrback on 12/16/17 at 11:45 am
Any of them can run his offense. The best QB will start regardless of style. Kelley is not a running QB. Just because Bert thought it was a good idea doesn't mean he is a running QB. But CCM is a "high school coach" meaning he can adapt his system to any QB. High school coaches don't get to recruit they just adapt their system to play the cards they are dealt. If he's the best QB then we will have a pocket passer. The good thing about cole is he's not completely immobile. He's nothing like tebow or anything but he's like Big Ben. Doesn't go down easy and extends the play
re: Who's the next Nick Saban?

If Dabo can keep it up at Clemson he's probably the closest thing to Saban in the near future. But may be a long time or may never be another like Saban

Most of us are really hoping he doesn't come here. If you're at a place like auburn recruiting top 10 classes every year and not consistently a great team and are on the hot seat every other week what makes anyone think he will be successful at Arkansas. Give me a high risk high reward guy over gus. Don't think he would be better than a 7 win avg here.

On the post before that I said "I'm not going to pretend I think they made the right call"
I'm not saying it was right. I think it was absolutely the wrong call i just think that's what they came up with. I just can't think of any other way that they would give us the ball and give it to us where they did

The holding didn't happen before the punt but it did happen before vatech had possession. Until they actually possess the ball technically arkansas still has possession so the penalty still happened while we possessed the ball

That would explain why we got the ball on our own side of the field and not where it was recovered

I'm not gonna pretend I think they right call, just asking yalls opinions on this theory. Maybe Bert's argument was that the holding penalty came B4 vatech had possession which would mean it's technically a penalty while arkansas had possession. Which gave us the yards we needed for the first down. If they makes any sense?
