How is this class worse than Bert's first class?

Just because of the numbers?

How the F are we lower than Ole Miss? The numbers again?

Good god we should change our name to the Arkansas Catfish.

Yes. On average player rating, this class is higher than 2013, 2014, and 2017.

Cool. I'll calm my tits.

Just hate seeing us down the charts like that.

If that's the case, hell of a job by this staff given the shite sandwhich Bert left.

Hey, it's embarrassing to see Arkansas at the bottom of the rankings because I know that nobody outside of our fans are going to say "hey, it's a small class". They're just going to see us sitting below Vandy and Kentucky.

But I think it'll be a solid class down the road. Several of the 3 stars we pulled in had some major offers and seem to be really solid players.

2019 is when Morris is gonna have to flex his nuts and show what he can do on the recruiting trail. The whole staff seems to realize that and are already working their asses off to build it. Hell, they were recruiting 2019 players all day while at the 2018 signing day ceremony.

I agree, they are already recruiting 2019 class hard. Should be a good class.

All in all, I think Morris did alright with the time he had to hire coaches, evaluate players, and try to win some over.

If our class isn't ranked in the middle of the SEC pack next season then we might need to be concerned.

I like that he was willing to take as many defensive kids as possible. Would have been easy for him to try to take all offensive players and get in to shootouts next season while kicking the defensive can down the road.

Bert's first class is one of the best we've ever signed in the SEC.

Alex Collins
Hunter Henry
Denver Kirkland
Austin Allen
AJ Derby
Dan Skipper
Martrell Spaight
Drew Morgan
Sam Irwin-Hill

Ole Miss has signed more highly regard players than us, while on probation, less than a year removed from a sex related scandal forcing the HC out.

Embarrassing? Yes. However Luke took his shot seriously and worked as if he was already the permanent HC not just the interim and it paid off for them.

Misleading as Drew Morgan and Sam Irwin-Hill were both rated as 2*s and now all kids, basically, who sign with a P5 school get bumped to a 3*.

Bielema also had preexisting relationships like Collins and hired P5 assistants namely Pittman, Shannon and Partridge that used relationships built that year and helped get players in year one.

Morris and his staff were the first to offer many kids in the 2018 class but when it became apparent they would be P5 athletes those relationships faded and our guys tried to rekindle after being hired here but with ESP it was too late. Being at SMU it would be a waste pursuing P5 recruits with no shot at going to G5 school.

Ole Miss took a lot of character gambles because of the supposed talent that other teams were will to pass on or they didn’t want in their program. They also have a lot of playing time to offer with the transfers out and roster leaving.

That is the benefit of hiring an established HC vs an up and comer.

Not that the PTB did Chad any favors by wasting time playing footsie with Gus so he could get a better contract at Auburn while having to also find a new AD.

THIS. RIGHT. HERE!!!!

If anyone wants to blame somebody then blame the PTB. If they would have hired Morris (or any other coach) sooner we would have faired at least slightly better on signing day.

I need to do a real quick information check for the idiots who call into Bo's show. In particular, the dipchit who said John L. Smith had a higher signing class than Morris.

John L. Smith never had a recruiting class.

The 2012 class was signed BEFORE Petrino's wreck. Petrino was fired in April during spring ball.

John L. Smith was appointed intern after the wreck and helped a little with the 2013 class but ultimately Bielema recruited those athletes.

These are the same people that waited until mid November to fire the AD because they didn’t like him and he was cozy enough with them. I was never buying any of the Gus stuff because the success his team had those few weeks turned any opportunity of leaving into mega leverage.

People overlook things like this when they defend finishing last in the conference in recruiting by throwing out lines like "the early signing period was devastating in conjunction with transition." Almost half the SEC had coaching turnover. Surely, it affected them just as drastically, right? Did they get out recruited by Vandy and Kentucky too?

ETA: This class needs almost everyone in it to develop and contribute or we might be fricked for a while

Vandy and Kentucky didn’t get better players than we did, they got more.

Each signed more 4* players than we did.

So yes they got more highly regarded players than we did.

They each signed more four stars and the difference in the average rating of each recruit is negligible. They signed the same quality with more higher end players.

Piss and moan all you want but any class with 16 members is going to be near or at the bottom unless you sign a Clemson class signing the #1 player out of 6 or 7 states. The group Bielema handed over to Morris wasn’t a great class and we only kept four of those guys. ESP made rekindling and developing relationships near impossible.

Our player average is higher than Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt they were only able to sign more bodies therefore they get a higher score.

Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Mississippi State are all in more talent rich areas and hired coaches or staffs from the P5 level that had relationships with players at previous job. We did really good H2H with State considering we got Bishop, Mason, Winkel all who they wanted. All of those teams signed 22-23 except Florida who signed 19 but Florida is Florida. They won multiple H2H matchups over Bama yesterday.
