Why was Saban so slow to get a QB out of the portal?

Bc he’s stubborn and always has been. Everyone in the country knew he needed one and he wanted to prove he was right and it backfired.

Did we even contact Hartman?

Hartman said we contacted him, so sounds like he was not slow at all.

If you look at the portal each year, it's not like there are a dozen guys like Hartmann out there. There aren't. Honestly, 98% of the QBs in the portal are often former 2-3 star recruits from schools like Western Michigan or South Alabama.

A really good QB in the portal from a Power 5 school is kind of rare.

IMO, I think CNS gambled he could work with Milroe and get him to be at least serviceable and he lost. Not saying Milroe will NEVER be a decent QB but he's not showing it this season.

I think we tried really hard to get the UNC QB Drake Maye and missed because of his deep family ties to that school.

What about the Notre Dame qb from Wake Forest? Did he go to ND this year?

Can confirm this.

Mack Brown was bitching about how elite schools (i.e he meant us) are trying to "bribe" Maye to come over to them

I was hoping to grab Maye but it was probably never coming to fruition anyways due to his closeness with UNC and Mack Brown. i'd imagine it'd be hard if your family went to UNC and leaving it all behind

Didn't we get a transfer QB, and isn't he starting for us now?

I don't understand this thread.

Unless the idea is that Buchner is a bad QB, in which case I think you're going to be proven wrong.

Buddha you're reaching like crazy. I simply wondered what made Saban not go after a portal QB in the first transfer window of the off season. Someone up thread said Bama contacted Hartmann. I didn't know about that. So, I asked a question and I was provided answers. But, I never stated anything about Buchner's ability in this thread. For the record, I do think Buchner has the talent to lead us to a great season. And, I have always felt it was a positive thing that Buchner transferred to Bama.

I don't know? Because he's a moron who is past his prime and needs to be fired today?

Is that the answer you're looking for?

He went after several, couldn’t get any of them. That includes Drake Maye
