Not being a SA, I really don't know anything about him except that Florida wanted him.

It's not like Arizona has set the PAC 12 on fire. You guys sell me on him.

He's young and doesn't need oxygen as he can breathe his own.

At the very least we should get a completely renovated Coleman Coliseum, if not a completely new basketball arena.

He's known for kickstarting major facility upgrades.

You can't find anyone that will say anything negative about this hire.

He withdrew his name from Florida's search when he found out we were interested.

Uh no.

Google it and do your own research..or post in the the thread that is already posted discussing him.

"Look at me, look at me" threads are lame.

Because St. Nick Saban evidently approves?

If nothing else, this needs to get done. I just don't understand why we can't get a new arena given the hell bent expansion effort going on at UA.

Byrne once ate three 72 oz. steaks in one hour. He spent the first 45 minutes having sex with his waitress.

Nagasaki never had a bomb dropped on it. Byrne jumped out of a plane and punched the ground.

Byrne once shot down a German fighter plane with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"

Byrne does not teabag the ladies. He potato-sacks them.

Please God a new arena. Get rid of Coleman or re-purpose it for other uses/sports.

If he doesn't make DST last year round, he isn't worth having.

This. Coleman is an embarrassment no matter how many coats of paint we put on it. I don't care if we have to eat the $50 Million that we spent on renovations 10 years ago and have to play at the BJCC for two years, we need a new arena. I don't think we will ever truly turn the corner until we have a better "face" for our program.

*Of course I'm not the one who has to come up with the money so it's easy for me to say.

I see this all the time. But unless the on-court product improves from what it has been for over a decade now, there's no reason to waste money renovating a stadium which will remain mostly empty.

If you can build an arena that can have a good atmosphere even when it's not full, then you have a better chance of building a better program. More fans will want to come because there's a better atmosphere and sight lines, and better players are more likely to come because there's are better atmosphere and nice arena to play in.

Right now, unless Coleman is 90% full, it feels like you're playing in a cave. No atmosphere and everything feels flat. Build a new arena, maybe about 12k capacity. Fewer seats makes it easier to fill. Get fans closer to the court, maybe 2 or 3 tiers. No more need for binoculars in a damn basketball arena. Can add some luxury boxes for added revenue.

Watching a Bama basketball game on TV is just painful. It looks terrible and just no energy. If the program is going to make the leap I just don't see how we can do it without a new, modern arena. If Auburn and Ole Miss can do it, why can't Bama?

That's not the mentality you want for a program who has struggled lately. You want the university to show they're fully committed and gain a lot of momentum by showing support and upgrading its facilities. And the attendance has been fine. We average just under 12k over the last 10 years. The bad side to that is that still leaves 3k empty seats, which looks horrible.

It needs to be torn down, simple as that. Stop with the stupid renovations that doesn't fix shite.

Looking back to 2006, I think having an upgraded BDS was huge for attracting Saban and luring new recruits. It wasn't the main reason but it proved that we had the resources and will to have a top shelf program. We have the coach, but I don't think we will truly turn the corner until the optics of the program change and that starts with a new arena. It's hard to tell people that Alabama does care about basketball when you turn on the TV and there are rows of empty seats at mid-court. The layout and seating structure just isn't conducive for a good atmosphere and it hurts our brand.

We might have to bite the bullet and tear down Coleman, eat the money we sunk in for renovations, and play in Bham for two years, but it will be worth it in the end.
