Someone would have to be a historically and generationally elite talent to come in and start for us as a true freshman.

Last one was Jalen Hurts.

Simpson is trash? Unbelievable.

Ty Simpson has been unable to beat out Jalen Milroe. Bit of a difference there
Search my post history and you can clearly see I'm not a member of the LANK fan club. With that said, I don't think Ty Simpson is necessarily the answer either. The few times he's been in the game, he's not really done anything to show he's some kind of exceptional talent like Tua.
He's looked average to me and has done some "not so smart" things when he's gotten more than a few meaningless snaps.
Last year, he spiked the ball at the one yard line celebrating a TD before making sure he'd actually scored.
The long completion he made this year, after he made a brilliant "Johnnie Manziel" type move to avoid being sacked, was a throw into triple coverage. He was lucky that was not intercepted. It probably should have been.
On the same play, he had a receiver wide, you can't get more open even closer to him that would have easily scored a TD.
That's just one play, I've seen some other throws that were not very smart. I think coaches have seen this in practice and I don't think he's been so brilliant that he could easily unseat Milroe. Milroe is not great but I believe the coaches might have though they could bring Milroe farther along at this point with the passing aspect of the offense than he is.
Maybe he'd be great but I wouldn't expect him to take over this point and look like Tua against Georgia in the NC game.

And Barnett was a redshirt freshman
Hurts only started because he was our second best option coming out of spring and the presumed first wasn’t good at all in the first half at USC. And luckily for us he was relatively developed in the mental side and could game manage well at a minimum
That QB room was Barnett, Hurts, and Cooper Bateman. This one will be Simpson, Lonergan, and Mack who have showed more than Barnett or Bateman as a QB room

Well Hurts may have not been generationally elite but is there anyone out there who wouldn’t take him back now? He was slow developing and he didn’t show all he was capable of while he was here but at least he was capable of improving and worked his arse off to improve instead of counting his NIL cash.

Wait, you mean to tell me that DeBoer and Saban aren't total idiots who can't see that Ty Simpson is Mac Jones II?
Crazy talk

What is afoot here is:
1. People are done with No. 4 and want him out of there even if they have to troll the streets of Northport looking for a replacement.
2. Ty Simpson comes across as a great, likable kid who people think has been treated unfairly and they want to see him get his chance, they think he deserves it.

JMO being able to see your current backup QB play meaningful snaps with the 1st team would show if that player is or isn't a candidate to be a starter.
If not successful then the coach better, make moves quickly to find a starter.
11 games in the books and it's unclear about #15. I guess truth is we have more problems with the staff than perhaps the backup QB.
Bama has to beat AU or there will be a mushroom cloud about BDS.

Agree on all counts except that I think problems go beyond the coaching staff. This team IMO is not as talented as everyone who naively thought we’d not miss a beat after Saban and be back playing for the big trophy has been screaming. True talent goes beyond a mythical star rating and IMO the mix of your talent is just as significant as your raw talent. At least to my eyes, and I am not a coach, I watched a thousand football games as a reporter but right now I am just a disappointed fan like everyone else, we’ve not had a good MIX of talent in a while.

If you think Ty Simpson had a FAIR opportunity to unseat Jalen Milroe then you crazy.
I said this in the spring...the coaches wasn't going to allow that to happen because of Jalen Milroe's accomplishments last season.
You claim Ty Simpson threw a ball in triple coverage on the play where he pulled a Johnny Manziel...I hate to tell you...that was a one on one jump ball to the tight end. The play your talking about was an attempted pass to Rico Scott or Jaren Hamilton.
When it comes to Ty Simpson though...some of y'all like to move the needle. Tua Tagovailoa put the ball in harms way early in his career... that's why he stayed on the bench for a while but that's just how he plays. He gives his receivers opportunities to make plays.
Alabama probably would have one loss with Ty Simpson at quarterback.

NEWSFLASH: There was an OPEN QB competition throughout the entire offseason after Bryce Young left.
Ty Simpson got THIRD place behind Jalen Milroe AND Tyler Buchner.
Simpson was a sophomore at that time.
If he is as good as everyone seems to think he is, he would've won that competition.

Not sure what the issue is. If QB1 isn’t getting it done, give QB2 a shot

Unless you have no confidence in QB2. I’m not dissing Simpson at all because we don’t know what he’s really capable of, but it sure looks like the coaching staff doesn’t think he can do any better. And it’s their decision, not the fans’, although there could be consequences if they’re wrong.

I'm not "giving up on Mack" but yeah I'm more excited about a QB coming in that's worth $10 million than I am about some unheralded backup QB.
Ty Simpson was a 5* out of HS.
He was basically ranked the same as Russell most of the way through the process.
The kid DeBoer sent packing to Ohio State (Julian Sayin) to bring in Mack was higher ranked than Russell and he still isn’t pressing to start up there in Columbus.
No one is underselling Russell, but expecting a TF to start at Bama or really any CFP level program is unrealistic outside of major roster issues around them.

Jalen Hurts was a great teammate and I don’t blame him for the fact that he wasn’t given time to develop.
But he shouldn’t have started for any elite program until he was a senior based on his onfield output.
Same applies to Milroe although he has shown no inclination towards developing and has actively regressed this year.
