There was so much optimism and promise just 2 weeks ago. A boat load of new talent moving up and coming in with a potential star QB being directed by a great offensive mind…and then Saban shat all over it.
Besides bringing Kirby back no one else knows Saban’s defense as well as Steele. Plus, we will have Pruitt as an analyst. This is a great hire imho.

I agree with you, I think Saban is trying to get back to smash mouth football. He tried the spread and during the last two years he saw his protege take our identity and make Georgia the best team in football with black and blue football.
This is his last few years and I think he wants to get back to the physical style we used to have. Let athlete's be athlete's., We have more than anybody even Georgia. Simplify the d and smash teams on offense. We will be playing for and winning championships again.
People can make fun of these hires but our d giving up points and yards were mostly mistakes made by blown coverages, not lining up in the right gapps. Kevin Steele had auburn playing damn good d when he was their cord. He's not Kirby or Pruitt but he's better than golden imo.
100% agree. Great analysis. I'm looking forward to it!

quote:Your presumption and stupidity know no bounds. No one knows that Grubb was offered the job. The likelihood is that he was not. IMO, Rees was probably Saban's number 1 target from the beginning and he kicked the tires on Grubb and picked his brain and it confirmed to him that Rees was the man.
If that was true he wouldn't have interviewed Grubb. The guys he hired are the best he could do.

Everyone knows he wasn’t offered. Dude didn’t get on a plane from Wash to Tuscaloosa to turn the job down. He was the only interviewee that’s info leaked. That happened because his agent wanted it to. It also happened because he wasn’t offered and his agent wants to keep his name hot for 2024 HC jobs.

Haven't been reading all the threads so why didn't we get any of the big name guys especially dc that we were looking at?

you need to give it a rest, dude. you’ve made everyone aware of your displeasure of the new hires.

I hope they both work out, like yall I'll have to wait and see. I wonder if the difficulties with finding top shelf coaches is linked to the same problem we see in a lot of players, they don't want to work or play for a slave driver type like Saban who demands you put in a crazy amount of work hours like he does. Not everyone is that dedicated to a job. And there are plenty of head coaches that are easier to work for. Anyway now I can't wait to see what kind of team runs out on the field this season....ROLL TIDE !!!

Bamas not going back to smash mouth football. I do think he wants to get more physical and be balanced a bit better. I imagine it will be a more pro style with a lot of rpo looks, while staying balanced with the run game.

Again, the only name so far that came out who was interviewed was Grantham. Pruitt may have been contacted or Saban found out it was not going to work with the NCAA right now . All the Schumann , Leonard,Lake etc talk looks to be just that , talk by message boards and Twitter throwing names out there .

Yeah...this is 100% bullshite. Josh Pate on his show last night spoke about the power Alabama has over the coaching world. He alluded to a big name coordinator at a big name school who told him in no uncertain terms that the only job he'd leave for is a head coaching job....or a job at Alabama.
