Why do so many of Bama fans assume Kirby will shut down Tennesee's offense?

While Kirby was here he always had trouble defending mobile passing qbs because of his "mush rush" philosophy. Georgia's defensive stats over the past two years are inflated because of them playing in the SEC East. Their defense struggled with Tennessee last year and they definitely looked outclassed against Jameson and Metchie last year. If Georgia played Alabama's schedule with the potent offenses in the west, you'd see they wouldn't look as dominant. Anytime Kentucky is the best offense you face all year you will look great.

I expect Tennessee to spread Georgia out and embarrass Ringo and the Georgia dbs. They aren't built to come from behind so it could definitely get ugly. Why is it that people assume Kirby will be successful against them.

I think UT wins the game personally. Unless Georgia runs very well and slows the game down. We should have beat UT and I think we will on a rematch.

I think Georgia wins at home but I don't think Georgia's defense shuts down Tennessee's offense. Not sure I've seen many (any?) Bama fans saying that. Georgia isn't giving up 50 fricking points at home though.

I want Tennessee to win and for Bama to win out and get a rematch in Atlanta. But I think UT's suspect defense finally bites them on the road and Georgia scores on the regular while getting a few key stops on UT's offense.

That's how you beat Georgia, taking the top off their defense.

If Tennessee doesn't turn the ball over, it will be a shootout.

Because we expect Tennessee to play like the Tennessee of the past few years. Turnovers, dropped passes, terrible defense.

I think Georgia will win this game. They're gonna look at Bama tape and make sure it doesn't happen.

UGA's secondary hasn't been tested and many of our fans are still not respecting Tennessee. Tennessee will beat UGA by at least 2 TDs.

Don't think they'll shut them down but they won't make as many mistakes as Bama did.

No one that UT has played this season made as many mistakes as we did...

I think Kirby and Georgia will take a different approach and come after Hooker early. They'll put a few hits on him and cause off target throws. Also, the Georgia DL will shut down UT's running game, Bama did not, and force them into long yards situations on 2n and 3rd down. They won't have 2 nd 5 or less like many occasions against Bama.
Finally, they won't have home cooking calls from the refs and open seasons hits on the QB will not be tolerated like UT did with Bryce.

I agree that Tennessee wont get all the favorable calls against GA.

I don't know that they'll shut them down but we gave them a damn clinic for what not to do with their coverage. I doubt UT breaks 30 against UGA. And that would be good defense against an offense like UT's.

I guarantee you Tennessee will score 35 or more on Georgia.

Can 10RC have some success running the ball vs UGA? That will be so important (just like it was vs Bama). UGA is going to need for Stetson to play very well.

JMO but UGA wins a close game.

I don’t. Elite QB/WR combos typically score on everybody

So far their rush D has been a step worse than in 2021

I don't think Georgia will shut them down but I do think they'll slow them somewhat. I doubt Tennessee has 4 or 5 plays > 50 yards like they did against us.

Tennessee Yards, YPP, Pts
> Pitt - 416 yards, 5.40 YPP, 34 pts
> Florida - 576 yards, 8.23 YPP, 38 pts
> LSU - 502 yards, 6.52 YPP, 40 pts
> Alabama - 567 yards, 8.10 YPP, 52 pts

We were embarrassing against them. In absolutely no world should they have gotten that many wide open, nobody close long touchdowns. And they won't do it in Athens like that, either. They'll hit 1 or 2 and they'll score on some drives that click, but they won' put up 560 yards and 45+ pts.

Do you think if Bama would have played the run better against Tennessee it would have been a different outcome?
Their lead back averaged 6 yards per carry against us. I think if Bama stuffs the running game, UT doesn't get some of those huge pass plays. The thing people are overlooking here because they are hung up on the passing game but UT stayed committed to running the ball just to keep Alabama off balance and it worked.

That definitely didn't help, but a lot of the big plays seemed almost untied to a scripted plan in which running for yardage forced us to do something else like bring safeties down or something.

Getting them in 2nd and 9 instead of 2nd and 6 definitely would have resulted in less points for them - without a doubt, though.
