Why not get Tommy Moffitt from LSU.

quote:

Considered by many in college football to be one of the nation’s premier strength and conditioning coaches, Tommy Moffitt enters his 20th season at LSU.

In 19 years with the Tigers from 2000-18, Moffitt helped strength train and condition an LSU football team that won 187 games during that span, easily the best stretch in school history.

It was Moffitt’s off-season program that helped pave the way to national titles in 2003 and 2007 for the Tigers and LSU’s undefeated regular season in 2011. Following the historic 2011 season, Moffitt was awarded the College Coach’s Choice Award by Strength Performance.

Moffitt has been at the forefront of strength and conditioning around the nation in teaching fundamentals. Moffitt focuses on the teaching of strength and conditioning as well as the biomechanics of speed development. In the past 25 seasons, all 25 of Moffitt’s teams between LSU, Tennessee and Miami have made it to a bowl game.

Many interns, graduate assistants and full-time staff members have gone from working under Moffitt to jobs around the nation. Currently the football strength and conditioning coaches at Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Arizona, UTSA, Wyoming, Bowling Green, Nicholls and Northwestern State worked under Moffitt at one time.

Moffitt was named the 2003 College Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by America Football Monthly. Moffitt has been part of national championship football teams at LSU (twice), Miami and Tennessee.

Moffitt was appointed LSU’s strength and conditioning coordinator on Jan. 10, 2000. In February 2000, Moffitt was named the 1999 Collegiate Football Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society.

Moffitt served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Miami for two years, helping head coach Butch Davis rebuild the Hurricane program. While at Miami, Moffitt was named the 1998 Big East Strength Coach of the Year. Moffitt went to Miami after four seasons, 1994-97, as associate head strength and conditioning coach at Tennessee.

A 1986 graduate of Tennessee Tech, Moffitt started his career as an assistant football coach at John Curtis High School in River Ridge, Louisiana, from 1987-94, earning the 1992 National High School Strength Coach of the Year award given by the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society.

Born in Springfield, Tennessee, Moffitt is married to the former Jill Beron and they have three children, Clay, who recently wrapped up his collegiate career as a pitcher at LSU, Aaron who is a sophomore tight end for LSU, and Brady, a freshman at Catholic High School.

And none of us outside of Bo....and maybe another here who is connected in the coaching world? Not sure we have anyone but if we do they might as well.

We can all read up on guys and know general names, but unless you have an industry knowledge of these guys chances are the majority of people here don't know anything about these guys outside of generalities they've seen on TV or their social media accounts.

Am I wrong?

Ballou from Indiana has been mentioned as being on campus this weekend on another site. I found some interesting notes on the Indiana board from when he was hired.

quote:

Long time no post. For those that don’t know, I go way back to the 90s and the IndyStar message board days. It’s good to be back.

I cannot stress how much of a home run hire this is and how much of an impact it will have on the IU program. I would go so far as to say there is nothing Coach Allen could have done to improve the program more than the coup he just pulled off.

How do I know this? I had the pleasure of working with Coach Ballou for 8 seasons, and he is absolutely the best in the business. This has been evidenced by every stop of his career...Avon always had the strongest teams, what he did at IMG is cited by all the players there, and the improvement from one year to the next at ND was incredible. Listen to any of their players and they cite the work of Coach Ballou.

I have never seen a person that can get more out of a kid, get them to the breaking point, and have them come back the next day wanting more. And through this process getting a coach that they love and will run thru a brick wall for. He is incredibly demanding without being demeaning.

Add to the fact that Coach Ballou spent 14 years not only as the S&C coach at Avon but also as a bona fide football assistant coach (RBs, LBs, and even a stint as DC) and he knows and understands HS Coaches and how recruiting works.

Finally, this was not his only opportunity. With the success at ND (and all the publicity from it) his door was getting beaten down by the blue bloods. But, and this is a huge deal, this is actually his dream job. Getting the Hoosiers to the next level is his dream.

This is a perfect hire. Just watch.

quote:

Listening to South Bend sports radio they mentioned how Ballou was terrific at injury prevention and the science behind conditioning.
Sounds like a good one.

IU also staved off the snatching away of performance coaches David Ballou (strength) and Dr. Matt Rhea (speed) by giving them raises in December. Ballou's salary jumped from $216,000 to $400,000, while Rhea's increased from $150,000 to $375,000.Aug 14, 2019

Feld seems to get further and further down the list with each passing report on the search process. May mean nothing but all the Twitter "experts" seem to think Feld stays at Oregon either because he isn't interested or Saban isn't interested in him depending on who you read.

Id like to think money would not be a problem if that is who Saban really wants. If he is that good then let the fact he wants to stay at his alma mater be the reason he doesn't come to Bama.

Maybe Saban doesn’t want him because of his ridiculous, silly mustache.
Alabama is a program that’s all business, and developing men

I’m sure he’s a great coach, but that mustache is absolutely ridiculous and says that he’s a pretty goofy guy. Probably not a good fit

A man can grow whatever facial hair he wants.

Hating on him for his mustache is peak Chicken-Heads-in-the-Salon hating. You single-handedly sound like a group of bitties on their collective periods. Congrats.

Dude, Saban gives zero fricks about hairstyles or facial hair, except his own. Look at the players. Are you a 70+ year old woman?

If Saban cared about staff looking goofy, dumb looking hair, etc. Pete Golding would not be on our staff.

Sorry, just had to. ;-)

It appears David Ballou (strength) and Dr. Rhea (speed) could be Saban's top targets (package deal). They'd be great hires, IF we can pull them from IU.
quote:

I think Ballou is one of the guys Saban is looking at, but I have not heard he has an offer. As we've said a few times, I think Saban will take his time, but when he has his guy he will move fast and IMO it will happen fast. I do know from several sources that he's doing his due diligence, which he always does, but this time even moreso. And I should add that after talking to a lot of college coaches he's as highly regarded as any. -- TWatts

Saban will have pay upwards of a million to get those two.
Will he pay that much for S&C? Think Cochran was making between 500-600K.

Our football program is bringing in so much money, we ought to pay whatever it takes if they are the right dudes to take us to the next level. Pay them both 600k if that’s what it takes.

Bama paid Scott Cochran $595k last year. That'll cover Ballou. We're also wasting $1.1M/year on Pete Golding. But, I doubt that'll continue much longer. Imo, Golding will likely be gone soon. UA should put that $1.1M toward a better DC (there are better options on staff now) along with Dr Rhea.

ETA: Also, Bama will likely collect substantial contract buyout $s for UGAs hiring of Scott Cochran as their new Special Teams Coach.

You think Golding will be gone before next season? And yeah, he should be making half that until he proves himself.

You just can't go more than 5 minutes without complaining about Golding can you?
