I still think that the biggest risk here is all the other stuff Cochran brought to the table. And we just won't know whether that void is filled or not for a while (maybe not for a decade when we read the "What Really Happened" books).

I agree. I wish we could get some quotes from current or former players at Indiana

Y'all can fret if you want, but it appears to me that the duo of Ballou & Rhea will prove to be a major upgrade over Cochran in ALL areas, and I think that'll happen quickly. This change was needed. Coach Saban is excited about it. And Coach Yeah Cochran got what he wanted too.

It's official... And a grand slam.

The more I read about these two, the more I love this hire.

The quotes from Jeff Allen and Cain lead me to believe that the disconnect with Cochran ran pretty deep and that there was a belief that his program was contributing to our massive injury problem the last 3 years. Interesting and telling to say the least.

Good. Y'all sounded concerned that Cochran leaving might be a loss in some way. Honestly, I doubt he'll be missed much, if any.
But I do appreciate him and wish him well.

I'm not really fretting, just acknowledging that Cochran did a lot outside of the S&C realm and so there is a void to be filled there.

Not sure how anyone can firmly say these guys are a major upgrade in that area. Not even sure there is such thing as a major upgrade. But I trust that Saban understands what Cochran supplied and either hired these guys knowing they'd be good at it or has others he knows will fill that void.

So, no fretting.

We were discussing unknowns. That’s it. I fully believe they will be better at the training side, but it will take a couple of years to tell about the relationships they build with players.

I don't think it'll take that long for Ballou and Reah to establish good relationships with the players; not 2 years, maybe 2 months. They've got many years of experience in that regard.

makes you wonder if Cain had something to do with pointing Saban in the direction of these 2 guys. Im sure Saban valued the input from Jeff Allen and L Cain.

You almost wonder if Cochran himself realized his system was becoming outdated and rather than go back to school to change to a more scientific approach to conditioning, he decided it would be better to move to a coaching position where his energy would be an asset as a recruiter and motivator. Guess we will never know, but it’s becoming clear that our entire staff knew it was time for a change.

Just want to point out that the OP was wrong.

Also, how can it be inside information when it wasn't even close to reality?

What I'm wondering is if Saban had informed Cochran he was going to make a change, and THAT'S what set all this in motion. We all know Cochran had wanted an on-field role for a few years, but he just said no to Kiffin when offered just that a few months ago. I wonder is Kirby is just doing his boy a solid...

Now I'm wondering if the promotion to butch jones was to replace Cochran in the good cop role with the players. I think I read a post either here or on BOL that stated Cochran wasnt happy about butch's promotion.

I've heard that, but given that Butch's role wasn't on the field, I have a hard time believing it.

From what Boz said and what I heard on some podcasts, it seems that the writing was on the wall regarding the S&C program.

I always think about how these things will be told in Saban's memoirs, and I wonder if he's gonna start a chapter with a string of expletives about injuries costing him a championship or 2. Couple that with Cochran's britches growing in size, and maybe here we are...

You're about a week late and he owned it.
