Who here didn’t expect a significant step back on offense?

Define "significant." I for one did not expect a 20 pt. avg drop in production

We're averaging 41.0 PPG. We averaged 48.5 PPG last year.

and I would say we shut it down pretty early in both of the first 2 games. I keep seeing people say the UF shut Bama down, but it had a lot more to do with limited possessions because the defense kept giving up sustained drives.

Outside of the line everyone has pretty much lived up to my expectations on offense. Didn’t think we had a back close to Najee or a receiver close to Smitty. Metchie is what he is, a solid #2. I think Bryce has played as well as I expected and I expected a lot. Stick Najee behind him, Devonta beside him, and Leatherwood, Brown, and Dickerson in front of him and I think you have an offensive Death Star again.

Somehow Smith is still underrated, playing football is easy when you have a guy open every play. As average as the line has been, they look worse because the receivers have a tough time getting open

Maybe I shouldn't have said average - look at this game with Florida and last year with Florida. Significant drop off. At no point did I feel last year that we couldn't outscore an opponent. This year I had hoped that our Defense could make up for lack of offensive production. This is clearly not the case

And by the way - I still define 7.5 points as "significant"

So you didn't expect an offense replacing 5 first round picks and their OC to drop from #1 scoring offense ever to borderline top 10?

And that is why we can’t have nice things.

There was nowhere to go but down after the megadeath offense last year

The good news is that nobody has a significantly better offense than Bama at the moment. Rattler is OUs worst QB since Riley has been there. Ohio State has elite skill position players but Stroud is a poor mans Bryce Young. Clemson is finding out that Lawrence covered for their weak scheme and poor offensive line.

We'll see what happens. I still think that Georgia is the only team that has a better combination of offense and defense at this point.

We all expected the offense to be behind this year from the past teams it's the defense that's leaving something to be desired

I did not expect the offense to drop AND the defense to flounder. I think I am in the majority on that

It's hard to take you seriously when you won't even acknowledge how off you were in your "20 pt less" charge. And the 7.5 is misleading because the D is not giving the offense as many possessions. The offense has not been the problem. The defense was a problem in one game.

Come on, it's only football. As you should know, there are much more important things in life.

This year's team is not as good as last years all time great team. Btw, what were you thinking after the OM game last year - 48 points?

Agree, the defensive issues were unexpected. And a major problem is they continue. Really major

I think I mentioned that I shouldn't have said that - dipstick. Also, I think I said that if you compared the Florida game last year to this year, it certainly WAS 20 points. Additionally - they had a real QB last year. If they had the same guy, they beat us by two touchdowns. Frankly, I don't care if you "take me seriously" or not.

I didn't expect the WR production to fall off a cliff. I admit we've been spoiled having so many good to great WRs at Bama.

I feel like I realized last year that Metchie wasn't anywhere near the same level as the other primary WR's we've had going back to Coop, but I just didn't want to admit it.

It's plain to see now that either the playcalling isn't getting our guys open OR the guys that have been starting so far don't have the talent to get there. Williams would probably fit right in as a second-threat guy similar to ArDarius Stewart, but I don't know if he's good enough to be the primary guy.

Would using Bryce's dual-threat ability open up the offense a little more?

To me - besides making a change or two on defense, THIS is our answer

I think a lot of us were a little skeptical of national media types talking about Metchie as if he was DeVonta/Waddle/Jeudy. He's a very good college receiver, but he's not a "he can beat you by himself" guy.

The opportunities are definitely there for him to get 4, 6, 10 yard gains on runs and keeps. I do wonder how apprehensive we are about him getting knocked out and having nothing behind him.
