As far as CBs under Saban? I would think at least top 3.

Kareem would have to be top 3 under Saban among all his stops as a head coach. He's really having a great career.

Yea, he had a great game yesterday. Houston made a mistake letting him go. I’ve always been a big fan of him.

I don’t know enough about Saban’s players at his previous stops.

Long arms, kid could cover. Had a tough freshman year, but he really figured it out quickly and became a stud. Loved watching him play.

Kareem really blossomed later in his nfl career. I remember his rookie year was nightmarish. At bama he was a solid player but definitely the Robin to Javier arenas at db

What a season he is having. 10'year veteran.

He was second to Javier because he was top 2 greatest returners ever for Alabama. Kareem played really well at Alabama but his first year or two at Houston was a struggle.

He's a great pro. Was a very good player, lost a step and adjusted and figured out how to continue to be a very solid player.

Incorrect.

Javier Arenas was a bulldog, a great tackler, and a phenomenal blitzer - but only a so-so cover man and was never asked to guard the opposing team's best WR or even their 2nd best. Most games/plays, Arenas was the Star, played near the box a good bit, supported the run, and had less-than-primary coverage responsibilities. The primary coverage responsibilities regarding the opposing teams' best WRs went to Johnson and Jackson. Arenas, however, was maybe the best punt returner of all time in CFB.

Kareem Jackson was orders of magnitude better as a cover corner than Arenas ever thought about being.

When he would come off of the edge and McClain up the middle, you just knew something was about to happen.

As far as Jackson is concerned, I really thought that he made a mistake coming out early. (My hot takes are God awful)

KJ has been a great NFL player but the best thing he has done make millions since he left Titletown. I believe he might be second to only Julio in bucks made since Bama. He has a been a solid citizen off the field as well. Salute.

11 years starting in the pros and under contract for a few more

Shoutout to the guy behind our season tickets who was so convinced that Kareem Jackson was trash. Rode his arse all game every game and "couldn't wait till we find someone better than Jackson."

yea, the thing about Arenas, if he blitzed, the QB never got away from him. He always made the tackle if the QB tried to run.

Pound for Pound, I think Javier was the best open field tackler we have had under Saban.

Ahh, the good ol days when our DBs could actually tackle well. Really, that has only been a development of the last two years. 2016, 17 our DBs could still tackle.

You would be hard pressed to prove which is worse at Bama the DB's or the ILB's. Two years of Karl Scott should be enough.

You're in good company. Saban also did at the time. Then he went in the first round.

People have talked down his freshman year, but he did have an outstanding game vs. Tennessee with two interceptions.

I don’t know about ‘orders of magnitude’ better but as strictly a cover corner, Jackson was probably better. But, just considering his college career, I think Arenas was pretty good in coverage and was a better all-around DB. In ‘09, he not only had 12 TFL and 5 sacks, he also had 5 INTs; one of which is etched in my mind, his pick of Tebow in the end zone that put the nail in Florida’s coffin in the SECCG. He was also a consensus All-American at cornerback that year...

I agree with your post. The only reason I said "orders of magnitude" was because Arenas was never asked to cover anyone deep, and if he did have to cover a man deep, it wasn't what we wanted schematically. He worked in the 20-yard-and-under range mostly. Jackson and Johnson were put on islands with the other team's best WR and told to note the color of the guy's pee if he went to the bathroom.

Arenas was not that guy. That's why I stressed "cover" corner.

I have no problem if one wants to say Arenas was more important to Bama's defensive plans than Jackson. Arenas was a DUDE and did a lot for Bama. But he wasn't the best or even second best "cover" corner on an island when he played at Bama, and I thought it worth noting since Jackson had the much longer career in the NFL. The NFL wants cover corners, which Jackson is. Arenas is not an NFL level cover corner.

The other thing about cover corners is that the better job they do, the less their name gets mentioned. Arenas gets a lot of love for blitzing and related plays. If Jackson (or similar player) locks a WR down, he did his job perfectly - and both he and his WR basically disappear from the stat lines and announcers' mouths. It's important to remember this in these discussions.
