Recruiting wise, I don't remember. Coaching wise I was traumatized by the shula years. I was hoping for a couple of SEC titles and maybe one national championship if he stayed at least 7 years

Honestly I really didn't think too much about the recruiting aspect, other than I knew he'd be better and him already having a ring, just made me think he'd be able to attract talent that, at that time, was going to Auburn or UT instead.

As for results, I just thought that we would be relevant and good. Like, consistently top 15 kind of good. I also thought that maybe, one year we might be able to win a title, but certainly didn't expect it.

Basically I thought we would get to a level of where Auburn is right now. Typically good, some bad years, and one time everything aligned and won a title.

Recruiting - I expected to close on some of the big guys and finish in the top 5 a couple of times.

Year to year - I expected us to finally break that friggin' Auburn streak and beat the teams that we are supposed to beat and compete for an SEC title every couple of years or so with the potential of a magical run.

Ceiling - I didn't know. Definitely an SECC or 2.

How long - 4-5 years and jump back to the NFL and leave the cupboard full.

My thoughts in general at the time - Dear God, please don't let that crazy drunk arse lady run him off. I was a little nervous after Rich Rod spurned us. Then we introduced him and about 154 'aights later, I wanted to run through a wall. What a surreal day that was.

My only care about recruiting then was the same as it is now - get the guys he needs to win football games.

On the field I hoped/expected him to get Bama back to Stallings level - make it to Atlanta pretty regularly and be in the national title hunt every few years. Pretty much what he'd done at LSU.

Obviously, those benchmarks have been vastly exceeded.

I was hoping for 5 years, 2 SEC championships, and 1 national championship. I'd have been very happy.

To a contender every year. Really did not expect 5 NC but wanted to be a legit contender. Everything here on out is gravy at this point.

Five titles in nine years was not the expectation that is for sure. What an incredible run

I knew we would immediately be better and a force to be reckoned with. I figured we would win a title with Saban. I was fairly confident about that.....

I never thought we would have this level of success mainly because I didn't think Saban would hang in there with us as long as he has....we are very lucky.

I expected that he would quickly make us a more talented football team because he was known as a ridiculously elite recruiter. I expected that he would quickly end the streak to Auburn and shove Tubbie's fingers up his arse. I expected to contend for championships on the national stage again. I also expected him to bolt after a few years because I am stupid and I believed the shite from opposing fans.

I never expected to win 5 national titles in 10 years and to have honestly been within a count hair of winning 7. Words really can't describe the absolute greatness we have witnessed especially when we and all of our rivals know we are about to win no fewer than two more over the next five years. Nick Saban shits greatness gentlemen. Words honestly escape me.

5 is 4 more than I was hoping for.

Honestly I figured he'd go back to the NFL with a better situation after winning one.

This was me right here. I didn't care if he left, I just wanted one national title. I walked around for two weeks telling my wife "We got Nick Saban", she started getting tired of it the second day.

Yup. My main goals for his 5 years were

- take back control vs Auburn/LSU/Tennessee
- win a SEC title
- stock the roster with talent
- clean out all the dumbass boosters/old guard

I figured if he did those things then maybe we'd have a shot at a national title, but honestly that was just kind of a pie in the sky thing. I knew if he did that stuff and decided to go to the Cowboys we'd be in good shape going forward and be back on the right path.

I was in high school when he was hired, I didn’t know a lot at the time about him other than he one a natty at LSU. At the time I thought it was more of a LSU thing than a Saban thing. So I just wanted him to beat Auburn at the time lol

Who would have thought 12 years later he would be making Auburn cheer for us in the title game.

I was probably the most thankful, and one of the few that has less than zero desire for RichRod to come here and prayed daily that he would stay at WVU. I had watched him coach and hated that he couldn't field a defense that could stop anyone to save their lives. I hated the thought of Bama not being a make their arse quit type team again b/c RichRod was not that kind of coach.

When CNS was announced, I knew that we were going back to the glory days, wasn't expecting dynasty days but had watched a few MSU games and a lot of LSU games with him at the helm and knew he could exceed those accomplishments by a hundredfold b/c we are Bama. Both were the pound 'em til they cry type teams and that's what I wanted to see here at Bama again.

quote:

- what did you expect in recruiting?

I expected him to exceed what he had done as MSU and LSU b/c we are Bama, didn't quite expect it to be as great as it has been but fairly close.

quote:

- what did you expect us to do on a year to year basis?

Again, I've been watching Bama since Bear and so I'm a Bama snob and expected him to win a few natty's based on us being Bama and his results at LSU. Yes, I do consider us to be 100 times better than LSU.

quote:

- what did you expect our ceiling to be?

I expect a few more natty's or to at least play for them. I even expect that after CNS retires, we will still win a natty or 2 based on the fact that Mules won with Saban's players at LSU.
