Here's a pretty good article from ESPN on the Iron Bowl and also some perspective on just how weird and unlucky this season has been.
quote:

• A run of injuries in fall camp and early in the season rendered what was supposed to be an experienced and dominant front seven more reliant on freshmen than ever under Saban.

• After serving as one of the last elite programs to rely on Big Burly Manball as its major offensive philosophy, Ed Orgeron's LSU team finally put together the right pieces for full-on modernization this season and ignited.

• That LSU offense surged to second in offensive SP+ and put up 46 points and 559 yards on Alabama in Tuscaloosa. All of it was needed (Bama scored 41), and much of the output came in the form of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire running through front-seven arm tackles.

• Late in the first half of the LSU game, Bama suffered probably the worst two-minute span of Saban's tenure, giving up two Edwards-Helaire touchdowns in 20 seconds to turn a six-point deficit into a 20-pointer. The Tide made up 15 of those points but couldn't get over the hump.

• On what was supposed to be his final drive of the game against Mississippi State a week later, Tagovailoa, already slowed by an ankle injury that had him limping through the LSU game, suffered a freak hip injury and was lost for the season.

• See all the glorious Iron Bowl ridiculousness above.

Or, maybe just that our defense is soft as a baby's arse and couldn't tackle my fat arse.

Without mistakes made by our offense, our defense's performance would have been good enough to beat both LSU and Auburn. The defense was not the best ever under Saban, but it was definitely good enough.

If the offense scores more than 40, they should never lose. Period.

It's happened a few times. But normally it's an all-world QB like Watson and Burrow. This Auburn offense should never even have been close to scoring 31.

Hell if the defense had any damn pride/discipline/toughness at all, we might have sniffed a damn shutout against that pathetic offense.

Would have loved to see what happens in the 2 losses if Tua was completely healthy.

I agree, and I don't know how that is even debatable, especially against AU. We literally handed them 14 points on offense, and they got handed 3 points before the half. The game shouldn't even have been close even with our defense giving up a few touchdowns and field goals.

Against LSU, they were constantly put in bad positions by the offense and special teams in the first half.

Tua was never going to be completely healthy here.

I’m not so sure he could’ve taken the same hits Mac took and come out unscathed

I think more people are upset about the season overall then the Iron Bowl loss. Yes we finish 10-2 and no going to the playoffs. All things considering we were lucky to get where we are and that is because of Saban and the schedule. But I think what is bothersome with everything that has happened we are 8 points out from still going to the playoffs. Everything we endured and could still see the light at the end of the tunnel.

To be honest I think we all that has happened and if we finished 9-3 or 8-4 and were beat soundly by LSU and AU would not been taken so bad. But still we were in it with all that happened leaves a sour taste.

The defense never got a fricking stop when it mattered either. 3rd and Golding was the motto.

As I said during the game thread, our defense could not string together 3 consecutive good plays. One of the most frustrating things I've ever seen.

If we got a 3rd down stop I immediately looked for a flag. All year.
