Saban is the GOAT, so not expecting anything like what he has done. BUT, I think what Kirby Smart has done at UGA is a reasonable hope. Top 10 team every year, top 5 recruiting classes, playoffs every other year and maybe a natty every 5-8 years.

Whoever comes in after Saban will have the best infrastructure in history, one of the most talented rosters in CFB and some of the top facilities in the nation. No reason for them to tank unless we just make a brutally terrible hire.

With the new NIL and portal rules, I think a lot of usual expectations could be thrown out the window.
However, I'm of tbe belief, since Bama is already established, we will only further benefit from this new paradigm in college football.

It all depends on the replacement! This will be the most important hire second only to Saban's hire!

The conference they play in! Put them in the SEC and they're record would decline some years.

I would argue that the B1G East has been the second best division in the playoff era. But then they face an undermanned Wisconsin in the Championship game

Outsiders don’t fully comprehend the grind of the SEC West then getting Georgia (or maybe Florida on an up year) in the SECCG

So with that said, what would expectations be for the 5 year period after a Saban departure - the period before the Saban built infrastructure begins to fade and the new coaches infrastructure, recruiting, system, general fingerprints on the program completely take shape?

They should compete for a national title every year. College football has less parity than ever before. Transfer portal, 4-team playoff, NIL - all these favor the biggest programs, and we are one of, if not the, biggest program.

The guy taking over for Saban will have a roster with a blue chip ratio of 80 to over 90%. So there’s no excuse to miss the playoff.

It will depend on the coach honestly. The only coach I think that's capable of winning after Saban consistently with good talent is Lane Kiffin.

We will compete year in and year out for SEC Championships & National Titles.

Kirby Smart is staying at UGA if he stays consistent. All I want is for the admin to go hire the best coach available after Saban.

A lot of my expectations would depend upon who the coach is; for the most part I'd be on the Top 10 teams, compete for playoffs, compete for SEC Title train...

If his successor is Kirby Smart, I'd expect close to the same though. I don't see this happening but I'd make him say no...

national title or bust, Top 2-3 level recruiting)?

I don’t know why the expectation should drop from this. The sport doesn’t have the parity it had when Saban took over. This is the expectation at Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State. It’s the unrealistic expectation at LSU. For a while it was the expectation at Clemson. It’s the expectation at OU minus the recruiting. There are only a few other programs near our tier.

I expect our administration to hire an elite coach when that day comes. Given that he’ll be starting off with as much support as anyone, and a loaded roster, I will expect the results to continue. Saban built the program back up, then did the hard part of keeping it up. We’re past that now. It’s nearly a self sufficient entity at this point. There isn’t a prospect or recruit alive today that recalls a time when Alabama wasn’t the undisputed king of the sport.

I don’t “predict” the next coach will have Saban level success, but given the advantages in place, I don’t know why our expectations should dip.
