True and things are so variable based on match ups and who's hot and health. You could use several starting line ups and be fine. It's more about the line ups getting the most minutes and being efficient. For me, that wouldn't include Jarin. I do believe he plays hard and don't have an issue with him, but he wouldn't get starter minutes right now for me.

I did notice that Oats pulled Holloway right back out the last game when he didn't close out effectively once on a three point shot. I believe Oats emphasizes running guys off the three point line and he probably likes Jarin's length for that. Unfortunately, it causes him to give up more dribble drives which I don't like.

I really appreciate the numbers. It could also be CNOs Way of telling the team this is what I want defensively. Jarin Maybe setting the tone of Expectations for effort Defensively.

It’s also interesting that Aden Holloway is in 3 of our 4 most efficient lineups. Defense takes a slight hit with him but he more than makes up for it with offensive output.

These numbers at very least provide a plausible explanation why Jarin should start over Mo, but not overwhelmingly so.

Oats likes to get high energy from his bench guys. Mo D definitely fits that description, much moreso than Jarin.

Dude I don’t think you’ll get any pushback.

He looked slow and below average at basketball the moment I saw him last season.

I cannot even halfway project him being a badass basketball player at Alabama. Even if he has 2 more years or something.

I am late to this discussion, but would like to add my two cents.

I think Nate has earned the benefit of the doubt, and if he thinks Jarin gives us an upside and keeps playing him, that’s good enough for me.

Jarin has a ton of upside, and if it clicks, look out. I hope it does. He seems like a good kid, and I’m rooting for him

Second hard hat in a row for Jarin. Haters get bent.

This thread aged well. I understand the OP position and it is valid for several reasons, but at the end of the day, kid is getting the job done on the court playing defense.

I wish Stevenson was giving a bit more on offense - in particular a more consistent 3pt jumper for spacing purposes and making his free throws - but he's clearly giving us a lot everywhere else on the floor. I'm honestly a bit more disappointed with his regression at the FT line. He's shooting 16% worse than 2023-2024. He's got to start hitting the freebies at his freshman year clip and not putting himself in a position to be a hack target by opponents.

Jarin is a big reason we're the 2nd best rebounding team in the nation and a top 30 team in blocks. Our front court is long and athletic. It has been a difference maker for us thus far. Additionally, we may be shooting a lower percentage from 3pt but we're making up for it on second chance points.

I'm more worried about our forward/centers all being in or very near the FT% range where they become auto-hacks when they attack the basket. The 3pt shooting percentage drop hasn't affected the points per game and general offensive efficiency.

3 points allowed by the Cliff, Nelson, Jarin lineup in the opening 4 minutes. Sadly they barely played together between foul trouble and Cliff’s injury

Hard to keep starters on the court together with that whistle. Depth at forward/center was huge last night.

5-star kid from Chapel Hill

Interesting how a town expands into other counties for certain developments can get that zip code but none of the benefits. His family actually lives closer to NC State than UNC and depending on traffic DUKE may even be closer. He may have a Chapel Hill address but does not live in Orange County where Chapel Hill lives. We always found it funny how the media played that up as if he lived off campus.

Seaforth HS where he went to school is in Pittsboro in Chatham County just down the road from his house. Really nice family.

Interesting reading the comments. Why would anybody question Oats? He has taken Alabama basketball where it has never been. This is his best team yet. My only criticism in the past was they played out of control too much. They have improved on that. Wimp did have a team with Leon Douglas that could have won if all. Don't know how this team stacks up with the other top teams, but I like watching them. Alabama is solid, diverse and deep.

Wimp's team that could have won it all was 1986-87.

Derrick McKey
Jim Farmer
Michael Ansley
Keith Askins
Craig Dudley
Mark Gottfried
Terry Coner
James Jackson

McKey, Askins, Farmer, and Ansley all played in the NBA with McKey and Askins playing for more than a decade.

Damn you Rick Pitino and Billy Donovan......
