it seems as if DeBoer is ok with letting them go. Does this not bother anyone besides myself that he hasn’t tried to re-sign them? It’s not like he’s replacing them with better players! As much as we have lost there should be enough money laying around.

Our best defensive players are Pierre and the players in the secondary. The rest are replaceable in my opinion

OK, serious question. How do you know he didnt try? We have no idea what went on behind closed doors, so please tell us how he let them go uncontested?

It's doubtful that they were the only ones asking for more money. I'm sure we had to bump up money to retain virtually every player on the team. When we signed Lotzeir Brooks, for example, he wasn't a well known name, I'll bet it took quite an advance to keep him here now.
We also don't know how high of a figure that Smith and Russaw were asking.

They’re still in the portal would be the best clue. If DoBoer offered them more money, it would be all over the web, everyone knows that…kids talk!!

Qua: 13 tackles, 1 sack (backup)
Smith: 26 tackles, 2.5 sacks (starter)
Keon: 13 tackles, 3 sacks (backup)

Is that the production you’re worried about replacing for next year or am I missing something?

Thompkins: 31 tackles, 3 sacks (Smith)
Woodson: 57 tackles (Lawson)

Again, I’m just suggesting we wait to see how things play out.

What if we don’t have the money? Is he supposed to give them IOUs?

I thought the Director of Player Development at the University of Alabama explained this last week?

We might as well give it all to basketball if the budget is that low!

I’ll ask again, who among our boosters has Mark Cuban, Phil Knight, Larry Ellison or Cody Campbell money?

We have found ourselves on a playing field where we are unarmed.

Brooks isn't that good... he had one outstanding game and zero catches against Indiana. He will get better, but his production doesn't really warrant a huge pay bump. I'm more interested in getting proven guys that produce. The money these 5 stars are going to demand coming out of high school, you won't have the luxury of "missing" with a signee. Bama, uga, Ohio St all get these crazy amount of 4-5 stars, but we are all sitting home watching f'n Indiana and Miami which are built through the portal. 2 QBs with a ton of starts each. Hard to go deep in the playoffs now with a first year starter, I don't care how long he has "been in the system". We are in for a bumpy ride next year. Sure, we'll most likely make the playoffs, but have no real shot at winning it with this coaching staff. Just my opinion. Hope I'm wrong.

Are you guys still planning on watching this trash? LOLM I will watch baseball, Basketball until it gets bad, hell anything, but this has become exactly what I stated it would become 5 years ago. Saban quit for a reason.

As per Ty........Lets say you are the starting QB and don't want to make the fan base and/or coaches mad, someone says we will pay you so and so, then you are like DEAL....But I am going to announce I may turn pro first, then you make an offer "I can't refuse" and it will look like I only left the draft, not Bama. The average CFB fans are suckers, they have stolen you GAME, quit supporting and watching this train wreck.

HIT THE DOWN BUTTON....I dont care, I am correct and you have all been wrong.

Let's just agree that they are average.

Who is replacing them?

Like, I want to be a sunshine pumper and be positive, but we are 10 days into the portal cycle and we have done very little to replace all of the experienced guys exiting the program. That, if you are a fan who wants the team to win at a high level, should be pretty concerning.

I guess Qua and Smith are so “average” little Ohio State had to pick them up for the heck of it!

I’ll agree that they are average. Way too much inconsistency to say that they are a loss.
We don’t know who all that the staff has reached out to as far as replacements go. Remember, the portal only closes for those wanting in, not to get out. When the portal closes, the staff will likely doa “deeper dive” on trying to fit our defensive needs.
As far as the OP and his last post about Russaw and Smith going to OSU. Good for them! For the amount of productivity and consistency they had here for 3 years, OSU paid for what 7-8 games? Like Ha Ha said, Go turn on the tape! I’d add practice tape included.

The Buckeyes are expecting Smith to slide right into a departing first team All American's spot & not miss a beat. They're also expecting Russaw to put his hand down in the dirt as a defensive end and be a force. Again, good luck to them but I think we'll be ok.
