What problem? If he wins the job he needs to be the starter. Period. I don’t care how old he is. I don’t care how long his competition has been around or how many stars that got arbitrarily attached to their names in high school.
DeBoer’s stuff doesn’t work without a first-rate quarterback to run it. I don’t care if that’s Ty, I don’t care if it’s Austin Mack, I don’t care if it’s Russell, I don’t care if it’s some walk-on that shows up out of nowhere and catches lightning in a bottle. I don’t care if he’s black, white or fuchsia.
It needs to be the guy who wins the job, case closed, the end.

I woulsnt be surprised seeing as how Ty couldn't beat out Milroe two years in a row.

Next year there’s going to be a new QB one way or another. That’s a good thing given our former one gave us no chance. However from a historical perspective you can expect several losses in a year with a new QB. If the freshman is close in competition he probably gets the nod.

With 5-star QBs, they better have a path to starting in within a year or you're probably losing them. If Russell doesn't start this year or have an open competition to win in the Spring, I bet he's a flight risk.
It sucks but that's the reality. Nobody is going to like this post but it doesn't make it less true. NIL has led to some wrongheaded thinking. You think Rashada is being well-served by having 3 QB coaches in 3 seasons at 3 different schools? Hell no.

That’s so hilarious! Ty Simpson loses starting QB position to the “great black hope”. Not so funny now.
Anyway, if he does, it’s a glaring example of how bad the QB room has become.
Let’s not be ridiculous, Ty might not win the starting job but it won’t be to a high schooler that chose Bama over SMU.
