Too early to know for sure, but a **potential** tropical system **might** bring heavy rain and wind to central Alabama.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama hosts Georgia Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Needless to say, this is a very important game. And, weather could be a big factor.

A tropical system will bring rain to the Deep South over the coming weekend. Here are the key messages

*It is simply too early to know if the disturbance will be a full blown tropical storm. It is certainly a possibility.

*It is unlikely it reaches hurricane strength.

*The main impact will come from rain, but again it is too early to know when and where the heaviest rain will fall.

*The map attached to this post is from the American global model (GFS), which shows the tropical low approaching Tuscaloosa from the south Saturday night with potential for heavy rain during the game. But, understand this deterministic output doesn't mean much six days out.

Best case for the game is a weak tropical system that passes to the east, keeping West Alabama on the dry side with little rain. Worst case is for a tropical storm to bring widespread rain, heavy at times, and windy conditions.

We will have a much higher confidence look by mid-week. Remember, with any tropical system when you are using old information, you are using bad information.

Well we avoided rain yesterday. Still looks like is this forms up should be less likely to miss us. Location will just determine how wet.

If it is a rain fest, could make the game result somewhat moot in this day and age

UGA's run defense is going to be a test but if it is sloppy then we're fortunate to have a lot of backs and a better OL this year.

Here are the teams UGA has faced this year and their rushing offense rank:(not including TN St)

Western Kentucky - 122nd
Arkansas - 134th
Oklahoma - 131st
Vanderbilt - 115th

Here are Bama's:
ECU - 108th
FSU - 40th
Kentucky - 42nd
South Carolina - 7th
Miss St - 51st

Okay, but when’s the last time we’ve played a Smart UGA team and running the ball hasn’t been hard work?

Georgia may not be as dominant as they’ve looked but we’ve got a decade of program history to look back upon with these guys. We know what we’re getting philosophically and know what to expect personnel wise.

UGA is a good team for sure, but I think we are better and DeBoer has pretty much dominated these regular season matchups. We dont know how good UGA is yet. I am confident we are a really good team. We beat them at their place last year and they may not even be as good as last year while Bama is better at literally every spot as far as I can see.

I think this could get ugly for them. But maybe they show up angry and surprise me.

If the weather is conducive to tossing it around off play action, I think this could look like the 2020 game.

My only pause is that we really do not have a read on what the UGA offense is in 2026. I think you can project that its going to be Bobo-esque but are we going to get a top-end implementation like 2012 or something more on average?

Georgia having to come to Tuscaloosa is a massive benefit this year.

Not going to worry about it until Wednesday. Record heat...historically quiet Atlantic hurricane season...and we still get a tropical system on the biggest game of the year...killing the pregame atmosphere for fans.

Maybe the outlook or timing changes...Hopefully so.

TROPICS: An area of low pressure is likely to form around the middle of the week over the southwestern Gulf. Although environmental conditions are only expected to be marginally conducive, some slow development is possible and a tropical depression could form late this week while the system drifts northward.

NHC now gives the system a 40 percent chance of development.

It is simply too early to forecast specific impact on Alabama and the Deep South. There is a huge spread in 12Z model guidance... the American GFS model puts a tropical storm approaching Tuscaloosa from the south Saturday evening, while the European ECMWF shunts the system eastward and keeps most of North and Central Alabama dry (rain confined to the southeast counties).

We will gain forecast confidence in coming days... we will watch the tropical system closely and keep you posted. Remember, when it comes to tropical systems if you are using old information, you are using bad information. Watch for updates.
