I’ve been skeptical of this all along because he wasn’t practicing and there was no real news about a timetable, but hell this is sort of interesting.

If he can practice all week, I’m not sure I see why he couldn’t play.

I don’t really buy the decoy stuff. This is the national title game. If he’s ready to go, play him. If he’s not healthy enough to play then roll with the guys we’ve got.

If he is practicing I have to believe he will play or at least try to play. There is zero reason for him to practice if he's not intending on playing. I'm sure this being his last year he's doing everything he can to get on the field for the national championship game

I've been consistent with what I've been saying. To play in championship, he needed to practice...

Damn dude, don't go out on a limb too far. You're like Nostradamus.

Like I said, his intention has been to come back as soon as possible and play. He wants to win. Let’s go!

Ya I kind of follow this logic - I would guess how he feels after a day of running / practice early this week will decide what happens

This. If he can run the drills at full speed, he's definitely a lock for playing.

Don't know why they would practice him if they weren't planning on him playing.

To make OSU work on prepping for him.

I can't remember a time that CNS played that kind of game. He's pretty straight forward about player's injury status.

I’ve not known Bama to do this much minus the QB competition in the off season.

Prep for Slade is not much prep for waddle is a lot but they haven’t seen waddle on film in a hot second so who knows how he gets used.

I’m not trying to be a downer here and I hope he plays, but if he is 75% he doesn’t need to step on the field. For his own good.

It was a clean broken bone that as of monday night will have happened 79 days prior. I've never broken my leg or ankle, but that seems like enough time for a bone to heal, and if my past readings are correct a healed broken bone is typically stronger than it was before.

We have the best strength and conditioning staff in the country. I'm sure he's had a tailor made rehab plan to address conditioning.

It's also not unprecedented. This happened after 49 days, so I'm not sure why we're acting like it's some impossible feat

quote:

Seven weeks before Super Bowl XXXIX, Owens broke his leg and and tore a ligament in his right ankle. The injury required surgery, and his doctor wouldn’t clear him to play against the Patriots back in 2005.

quote:

Out of 72 offensive snaps, Owens played in 62 of them. In those 62 snaps that he played, he caught nine passes for 122 yards on 14 targets, the most of any player in the game.

quote:

Randall Gay and Asante Samuel both had the opportunity to cover Owens during the game, and couldn’t believe how sharp he was.

Gay, who covered Owens for the majority of the first half, told ESPN after the game, “I don’t know what he was before the injury, but I’ll tell you, it was like he didn’t lose a step at all. I couldn’t be at the level he was playing.”

That's pretty grim. I think his chances of survival are fairly good.

I won't go into the details because I know it makes a few people here want to throw up but when I had my lower leg injury, which was much worse and less clean than Waddle's due to tissue and dislocation, it occurred in late August. 80 days later was........mid November, correct?

I was doing pool workouts and long stride running while hitting in a cage and doing modified baseball preparation workouts. I had already completed at least 40 days of intense rehab on the ankle itself but also to strengthen the lower leg and calf. I was approved for all major activities including all cuts and stop and start runs and exercises by Thanksgiving, and my Mid-December was a full participant in offseason baseball workouts.

Waddle's injury is less severe, he's a 100x better athlete than me, he has better doctors and trainers than me and 20 years of technology more than me. Now, I wasn't at max full speed until probably that next summer (and honestly never quite got back, but my injury was bad), but I was very much at close enough competitive speed that entire spring season.

This return wouldn't even be in the top 500 "wow that is insane" injury timeline returns of the last 10 years.
