Disagree about Maui. Last season's team got more comfortable running the offense as the season progressed but the roster just wasn't a fit for what Oats wants to run. This team will take some time to gel due to all the new faces, but should get stronger and stronger as the year progresses because it is tailor made for an up-tempo, free flowing style of play. Regardless of Petty's status we are going to have some major talent. All we lacked was front court depth, and now that concern has been alleviated.
I agree we can win it and here's why: last year, we were starting from scratch. Nobody knew anything about the system and at times, it showed. We had no inside game and everything went through Kira or Petty, especially early.
This year, we start from a much better place. Jaden, Herb, Reese, and Q have all practiced the offense, Petty too if he comes back. Rojas and Gary have at least seen it. We have loads more athleticism than last year. All they have to do is put it together. I know that will take some time and we should certainly be a better team in March than we are in November. But we aren't starting November at square 1, we should be in about the same place as we were in late December, early January, with better athletes, better shooters, better basketball players, and a DAMN INSIDE GAME! North Carolina and Indiana better look the frick out! The only way we don't compete in Maui is if Hawaii still isn't letting anyone out of their rooms for 14 days.
Speaking of recruiting, I always thought Pett was our ace recruiter and he has been in the past. But Hodgson is eating his lunch this year.

I think Petty comes back and Reese leaves. I know we have been saying Javian but Reese is a Senior and with Bruner, Tchikou, and Rojas ahead of him he isn’t gonna get any minutes here.
It comes down to skill set for me now. Alex Reese’s positives aren’t needed anymore. Bruner, Tchikou, heck, everyone on the team can make a jumper now. What Reese brings to the table isn’t unique anymore, all of our bigs can do it.
Javian on the other hand, he’s your old school back to the basket big. Maybe some easy Paint buckets here and there would be nice, & no one Else on the team can post. Javian’s talents are unique.
Give me Javian all day, let Reese move on.

I agree. Javian is just a Soph too . He will get better....Reese has hit his ceiling

Rapper Youngthug posted Alex on his Instagram. Would be nice to get him front row at a game.

Boy today was huge. What a job the last 3 months by the staff.

Yea, this really has me excited about basketball. We have a team loaded with athletic guys, that are also good at basketball.

Bingo. I CAN’T STAND 1-dimensional basketball players. If they are superb at one thing but suck at everything else, in my opinion that hurts the team.
Give me 5 guys at all times that can shoot, pass, dribble, and drive, and you can keep your Bola’s/Dazons that make you play 4 vs 5 on the offensive end.
This season is shaping up like a dream come true for a basketball fan like me that likes long, athletic, skilled players.

Wesley Cardet Jr, in my opinion, could get a nod at a fifth-star. Played excellent today for Florida powerhouse @TeamBreakdown.
He told me after the game that St. John’s offered and DePaul will begin recruiting him.
In addition, Alabama will zoom with him again on Wednesday.

Proof that Bama needed to pay up and go after the best coach available. Nothing against Oats, but he is in over his head at Bama.

Arguably one of the top-rated guards in the nation, Jaden Bradley, has been completing zoom calls regularly.
According to his father, he's completed several with the most recent ones being with Alabama and Louisville. Kentucky's staff recently offered Skyy Clark so I wouldn't be surprised if they speak with Bradley as well. He will have four more zooms this upcoming week, we will have them once confirmed.

In all seriousness, what a great class. I think Keon Ambrose will be surprisingly good.

On Sunday, Alabama pulled off a big score when they added another recently reclassified big man in Alex Tchikou. His addition allowed Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide's class to move into No. 9 in the 2020 team rankings. That means that six of the top 10 spots (and 10 of the top 34) are now held by programs from the SEC with Kentucky at No. 1, Tennessee at No. 5, Auburn at No. 6, LSU at No. 8 and Arkansas at No. 10.
Included among the players headed to those programs are seven five-stars and 19 four-stars. Basically, it is the type of recruiting excellence that we have come to expect from the SEC in football.
Obviously, John Calipari and Kentucky have been counted on to carry the league's torch on a yearly basis, but the rest of the league have stepped their game up. Rick Barnes has hauled in five-stars in back to back classes, Bruce Pearl has turned Auburn into a place with a ravenous hoops following, Will Wade continues to pick up big names at LSU and Eric Musselman made a big splash in year one by locking up a great class of in-state prospects for the Razorbacks.
Speaking of Alabama, look for them to become a trendy pick as a "sleeper" team for next season. Oats gives his players tremendous freedom and they should now have a deep roster with size, shooters, playmakers and new talent. There could be an adjustment period as several newcomers grow accustomed to playing with each other but things are definitely looking up in Tuscaloosa.

Yes, but as always the question is how much. The speeder and cop on the highway analogy applies to basketball just as much as football. Almost everyone is going 5-10 over the speed limit, us included. Those AAU/prep school coaches' palms don't grease themselves and mama would like a nice office job after all. The cops don't care about someone going 75 in a 65 because it isn't worth their time. Meanwhile LSU and Arizona are drunk, racing each other at 110+, weaving through traffic, and tossing empty beer cans out the windows with a cop car behind them. Getting a couple of somewhat highly rated kids to reclassify isn't a huge red flag in and of itself. It isn't like this staff showed up in April and had 4 top 40 players signed in December. In fact, they all but struck out in the early period. If Will Wade level cash had been on the table that probably doesn't happen.

Do you think they do get hit though? I'm not sure. Even with the evidence and HBO special
Posted on 7/6/20 at 11:18 am to solus
If the evidence is there, yes. Only way out for them is if they pull an UNC, but UNC is a blue blood.
Posted on 7/6/20 at 11:25 am to solus
I am more optimistic after the Oklahoma State sanctions. They seem to be looking to send a message. The recordings were authenticated and entered into evidence in federal court, so their contents are beyond dispute. If LSU skates it will be on a pure technicality where they successfully argue that Wade did not explicitly state that the offers he discusses were impermissible benefits. No one with half a brain would ever possibly buy that, but it's NCAA enforcement we're talking about. In their eyes a player selling a textbook is a cardinal sin but purposefully funneling hundreds of student athletes into essentially fake classes is outside of their jurisdiction because regular students could have signed up for them too.
