No offense to Hawkins and Rojas, but we were their best legit offer and they both followed him from Buffalo.

The only HS kid we signed under Avery Johnson who wasn't from Alabama, Mississippi, or Georgia was Braxton Key.

I know you said “HS kid”, but since you counted Rojas and Quinerly for Oats.... Arthur Edwards, Daniel Giddens, Tevin Mack, Bola Olaniyan, Ar’mond Davis, Jaden Shackelford, Jared Butler and Jaylen Forbes all signed with us during Avery’s reign. Terrance Ferguson and Kobe Eubanks committed here. You could argue Avery recruited more nationally than any coach we’ve ever had.

I don’t think anyone is saying you shouldn’t be excited by Oats getting after it on the recruiting trail. Just that some of us are understandably cautious to celebrate having gone through the disappointments of losing out on national recruits like Troy Brown, Terrance Ferguson, Bruno Fernando, Drew Timme, Mustapha Heron, Mario Kegler, Schnider Herard, Marques Bolden, etc.

It's not that you have a different opinion but that you like to post the most unpopular ones over and over and over and, I might add, over. That's why most posters feel you're trolling but you know that.

That said, I certainly don't think you should be banned and personally hope you keep posting here.

Your 75th playing time post that has Herb Jones with less than one second may be just entertaining to you but otherwise I appreciate that you have a sense of humor.

Not to mention, "Watford lied to Kira" is a board classic as far as concerned as well.

we should only take recruits serious if they take visits especially during football season even then it's a toss up but our out of region prospects is pretty impressive

Hawkins had offers from Miss St, Arkansas, Arizona State, Kansas State, and Colorado among others, he chose Buffalo because of Oats, not because he didn't have good offers.

Didn't realize Shackelford signed when Avery was still the coach, I thought he had signed after Oats took over.

I understand that, but I'd counter with the fact that we had maybe 5 top 40 non Southeastern players visit Alabama in Avery's tenure, Oats is probably gonna surpass that in his first year with 3 months on the job. That has me excited.

Here’s the difference to me: I’ll concede that Oats and Co. are working their arse off but not outworking the previous staffs. I’m not sure I agree with that statement but I’ll concede the point.

Oats and Hodgson are selling something tangible with a track record. Avery was selling the idea that he could coach a college team and be successful while getting kids to the NBA. It didn’t happen. Oats has a different, exciting system that appeals to kids and he’s won with it. Sure, it was Buffalo but he didn’t just win there. He was kicking the shite out of the conference AND beating bigger teams Buffalo has no business beating even in the tourney. He’s done it and made it work real damn well. He can sell that and as long as it continues to work in the SEC and we have a decent year, I think this program will take off. If we struggle, Oats has his work cut out for him. I think it will work well enough to keep the excitement going and build some momentum up. Then good things should start happening.

There’s a difference between legit offers and 247’s listed offers that those are pulled from. Of those you listed only Arizona State and Arkansas showed enough interest to have a legit offer on the table. Colorado and Kansas State offered him in 2017 and showed no interest after that. Twitter searched “Mississippi State Raymond Hawkins” and literally nothing popped up, meaning it was probably a ghost offer that 247 tends have on their lists.

So yes, Arizona State and Arkansas seem like they MAY have been legitimately interested (maybe rockie can confirm or deny their interest). But don’t be fooled by an offer list. Saying he chose us over Colorado, Kansas State, and Mississippi State would be like saying Memphis beat us out for Jamal Johnson.

“Coach (Thurman) sent me a text,” Hawkins explained. “It said, ‘Good afternoon, hope all is well. I wanted to let you know you have an offer from the University of Arkansas.'” Hawkins, who now holds offers from the Hogs, Mississippi State, DePaul, Kansas State, St. John’s, Nevada, UNLV, and Wyoming, said Thurman has made a big impact on him.

Hawkins said Arkansas, DePaul, and Mississippi State are the three “schools recruiting me the hardest”, adding that “TCU reached out to me today.”

Mississippi State also made his final 3 schools he decided between so no it wasn’t a ghost offer. He was ranked as a top 100 recruit most of last recruiting cycle, why would you think he didn’t have any offers?

Mississippi State ended up signing 3 guys who were all ranked lower than Hawkins.

What's going on in here? Are we doing that thing where we're afraid to get too excited about the hot new girl we're dating, so we're playing it off like we aren't madly in love with her already, just in case she dumps us or turns out to be batshit crazy? We act all wise and shite around our friends, like, "yeah, she's funny, hot, and gives a great BJ, but, I'm just going to wait and see how it goes..."

Enjoy it guys. Nobody is saying you have to marry Oats forever and have his babies. You can dump him later, if you decide you want to.

Willie Cauley Stein was a 4 star that primarily had K St, FL and Ala recruiting him, until KY offered as a fall back. Recruiting him was over as soon as KY offered. He was considered a little bit of a project, buy who knows, Grant might still be our coach if he had gotten him or the big kid from Alabama that signed with UAB. That was really the final blow with Grant. He would have made the ncaa tournament with the kid that UAB beat us out on. Its important for a new coach is to get some momentum going when you first come in. Reports are that he is definitely working them harder than they did in the past. Didn't Jim Farmer say he had never a bball team practice as hard as the one he saw a few weeks ago at Alabama. Almost all good athletes will improve their skills if they work hard. The 2 Auburn guards were not world beaters in high school. They just worked to get better at shooting. I think Harper was a 3 star. But it didn't happen over night in one summer, either.

I honestly don't remember his name getting mentioned a lot but looking back it does appear we had serious interest when Anderson was still here. Anderson didn't normally throw a bunch of offers around.

Looking back at some of his tape, he is the type of player that Anderson wanted at that position. I also noticed he was from Findlay Prep. Anderson and his coaches recruited a lot of kids from there and even have two current players from there.

Someone on Twitter quoted this from it:

quote:

“While he is starting to get a feel for programs he would like to visit -- he mentioned #Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon State as four that stood out as potential spots to visit” #RollTide
