Edited out the first part. No need for me to be a dick. We all want the same thing in the end for Bama basketball.
In the beginning of Grant’s tenure, California kid Angelo Chol and Kansas kid Willy Cauley Stein were some of his top targets. We whiffed on both but they were national recruits. As George stated, Johnson focused heavily on Texas, recruited Troy Brown from Las Vegas, went after Key when he went to Hargrave, etc. I forgot to add in that Johnson just landed a Californian in his last class You’re moronically painting a picture like we had staffs who sat on their arse and didn’t bother leaving the state of Alabama. It’s revisionist history that happens so often on a message board trying to elevate a new staff and put down an old one. In no way, shape, or form do I think Oats and his group of assistants are outworking the predecessor staff. Obviously I want Oats and company to actually land these big time recruits and change the program.
As for the second point: Do I think Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, Coach K, and guys of that stature have to go as hard in recruiting? No. They can pick and choose where they show up and be there just for one kid. Now programs like Alabama, yeah I’d say most every coach guys as hard after guys. Just because a recruiting writer doesn’t mention them on their twitter blurb doesn’t mean they weren’t in the gym watching a guy.

Let's face it. We were all excited about Grant. Most were about Avery though I was leery.
Like the workman attitude and the things I hear about Oats but I will wait until we see something to get blown away.

Yep. Every time Oats talks, he does nothing but impress. The style of play that he hopefully implements should have kids wanting to play here. Now it’s about actually landing those kids, winning games, and making us relevant.

I won't be getting excited about any of these 5-stars we are offering and getting included in Top 8 lists until we actually get a few to commit, sign and show up on campus.
I just hope they will all be honest with Kira.

Swinging the 5 star from Nova was pretty damn big.
Eligible this year or not.
Oats is creating much more realistic options with him and Hodgson recruiting the trail than the prior staffs imo.
It'll only get better once he places his product on the floor.

The only kid HS kid we signed under Avery Johnson who wasn't from Alabama, Mississippi, or Georgia was Braxton Key.
The only one Grant signed outside of the southeast was Algae Key.
Oats first three signees have been from N.J., Kansas, and California, I would say he has in 3 months already done a better job recruiting nationally than the two previous staffs did in their entire tenures.
I don't ever remember Johnson or Grant having five top 40 recruits in one class from all over the country all saying they are going to visit Alabama either.
Go on and act like Johnson and Grant were just as good of national recruiters as Oats though, and that they worked just as hard recruiting as the current staff.

Where was Bola from?
This is a serious question. I really can't remember. I'd google him but I only know him by Bola

He was a grad transfer from southern Illinois, I wasn’t counting grad transfers, if so I would’ve mentioned Bolden who Oats also signed from outside the southeast.

Pretty sure that he transferred from Southern Illinois and had gone to HS somewhere in the Midwest like Illinois or Indiana.

Pal you’re moving goalposts so much you should be in politics. It went from our previous coaches not recruiting as hard at AAU events to not recruiting nationally to not landing guys from as wide of a market George and I laid out multiple instances of our previous staffs recruiting nationally. They just didn’t land these kids which is why they aren’t in Tuscaloosa anymore.
As for Oats, sure I hope Hawkins and Rojas turn out to be awesome but they were both going to Buffalo anyways so I don’t count that as some coup with him at now at Bama. Obviously I am very excited about Quinnerly and feel like that was a big time signing. It appears you’re getting your jimmies rustled because some of us aren’t fawning over simply passing out offers. When we land a Burnett or Nix or Timberlake, I’ll be ecstatic. Until then, it’s just a name on a list which does nothing.
And therein lies mine and George’s initial point where he stated:

We gained a Crystal Ball for Jay Scrubb. #1 JUCO player
Posted on 7/21/19 at 7:19 pm to mistaken4193
That’d be awesome. Especially since most assume he’s Louisville bound.

You have to admit we never had this many top 40 players not from the southeast visiting Bama, all in one class, under Johnson or Grant. Oats has had the job just a few months too and has gotten these guys to visit, these are guys who have offers from Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan State, ect. He is definitely out recruiting harder nationally than either of our two previous staffs.

Yea, I don't give a shite about any of this stuff or the debate going on. I was just asking a question about Bola.

I agree that this staff is recruiting at a different level than Avery and Grant.
The proof will be in the pudding of course and If we get to taste it.
I don't remember so many top players giving us the time of the day before.
We'll see if Oats can land some them or the euphoria just peters out.
It will depend on winning and product on the floor.

Yes, he definitely appears to have cast a much bigger net and hopefully gets these guys on campus and actually lands some.
I’d concede that 100%. But recruiting harder nationally =\ recruiting harder altogether or being out at more recruiting events.
I’ll let this die though. We got different opinions and it doesn’t matter. Oats is our Coach now and that’s what matters

I really like that we kept Pettway on the staff who is a great regional recruiter too, add that with what Oats and Hodgson are doing nationally getting these 5 star guys to visit and we could really have something. Best of both worlds.
This isn't the best class for in state kids but Alabama usually has some good talent, would be nice to keep it in state. With that said, I really like Colby Jones and Rogie Gordon from Alabama and they wouldn't be bad consolation prizes if we do miss on some bigger names. I especially think Rongie Gordon is underrated.
Devion Smith is another regional prospect that I think we have a good shot with, top 50 guard.

Are you trying to say people can have a difference of opinion on this message board? Shut the front door, that’s the stupidest thing I have ever heard!
