I agree. Hawkins will be the 3rd big man. Someone has to play defense. This isnt all about offense. Hall got pushed around last year on defense. We need someone big enough and strong enough to hold his ground and not let the offensive player just back his way to the goal. The worst thing we did last year was play interior defense. I dont ever see Oats mention Reese at the 5 position. If he has lost weight, there is even less chance of him playing there.

I'm just curious as to what Oats can get out of Reese defensively (or alternatively what sort of improvements Reese can make defensively).
Can you be a good enough defensive team with Reese at the 5? On the other hand, I don't know that the 4 would be that much easier for him. He would definitely struggle against small ball 4s.
He's obviously a pretty interesting offensive player, so really all he has to do is get to a level defensively that we can live with.

That’s kind of my same worry with Herb Jones but the opposite, can he get good enough on defense to live with his offense. Holding the guy you’re guarding to 4 points and 2 turnovers is great but if you score 2 points and turn it over 3 times it’s not really helping a lot.
He has potential though, hopefully he starts to reach it this season.

Not sure if you guys saw it or not but at Buffalo Oats absolutely demolished Arizona playing with four guards while Arizona had two seven footers, and the number 1 overall pick in Deandre Ayton. His system really uses the other teams bigs against them, I doubt any centers circle playing Alabama if they watched that game.

Probably won’t go into effect this year. I am for it though, especially in football I think too many players are getting them.

All players who transfer should be immediatly eligible. Until coaches have to sit out a year between jobs I have 0 interest in seeing players sit out.

It seems like Greg Byrne and the athletic department are comfortable changing the timeline and scope of the capital improvement projects. Any chance they push up the timeline for Coleman Coliseum?
Chip C.
The fact that Byrne did a recent interview and stated that a shovel wouldn’t be put into a dirt until three or four years from now suggests to me that he’s comfortable with that timeline. But he took sort of a beating from the fan base when that interview was widely disseminated, especially on social media. Putting himself out there to face that sort of criticism means, to me at least, that things aren’t changing on the timeline for Coleman. Now, should a booster want to make a significant donation with the understanding that that money be earmarked for Coleman Coliseum, that would change things significantly. But we’re talking about a lot of money that would need to be donated specifically for Coleman. Usually, athletic departments don’t like to be told how to spend their money, but when you’re dealing with the egos involved at that level of giving and the sheer amount of money involved, nothing is off the table. What seems clearer is that there is no realistic option to level Coleman Coliseum and rebuild. It will be a wide-ranging renovation, and the renderings look good. That said, the renderings originally presented for Bryant-Denny Stadium have already changed due to an increase in construction costs and a bid that was not accurate. So if the renderings that were presented for Coleman Coliseum are actually done, it will be a nice facility. But the odds of the timeline moving up don’t seem good at the moment.

Coaches are under a contract that many times make it difficult for them to leave a school, or schools wont consider them because the buy out is too big. It really not the same.

Ya’ll don’t think that Byrne explained the Coleman reno situation to Oats before he accepted the job and that Oats was fine with it?
Using Coleman as an excuse as to why we can’t win is a bit of a reach. Coleman has been rocking before and can be again, the coach/players/and fans are way more important to the venue. 3 years away isn’t really very long either.
There are a lot of teams that are winning who have much worse venues than Coleman.

None of them make the revenue the Alabama Athletic Department does.

Those reports get cooked a shite ton. It's in the best interest for major universities in most states to not publicize profit.
Also I'm not sure how they relate in regard to this. They aren't in a worse facility than us which is what I was addressing.
