He is our lead National recruiter as well. Kids mention him even before Oats.

why do people get so offended when people bring up that he wasn’t very good last year or that they don’t think he will play a lot this year?
To me it’s not being offended but instead a difference of opinion. This time last year folks were saying he was a threat to go pro. Now some are saying he’s one of the worst on the team. He’s got some tools to work with and is nowhere close to reaching his potential. I like him as a player who can be effective without the ball, but he has to limit his turnovers and silly fouls. Those are correctable mistakes.

Being realistic he has a long way to go to get in the NBA. He projects as a guard and you can’t get into the league as a guard shooting below 50% from the free throw line or shooting 25% from three. They don’t even draft centers these days unless they can shoot from three.
I would love to see him get where he can shoot well consistently though. I have no doubt he is trying to get there.

I expect Herb to start and have a good year. Oats' offense isn't just about jacking up threes.

Whether he starts or not he is gonna play a lot, even if hed oesn’t start he will probably be the first guard off the bench unless Quinerly is eligible imo.
You’re right, Oat’s offense is about more than jacking up threes and Herb is our best guard on defense by far. He also can be good in transition just need to cut down on the turnovers and improve his descision making on fast breaks.

For those of you who think Jones will start who do you think he starts over between Lewis, Bolden, Petty, and/or Quinerly?

I would say if he starts it will be at the 3.

Petty or Bolden. Bolden possibly likes coming off the bench.

Video of some of the teams summer workouts. Got them boxing and running stadium steps, boys gonna be in much better shape this year, hopefully that will help avoid the late season collapse we've become accustomed to.

No way Petty comes off the bench. Assuming he continues to improve like last year he should be one of our best players.

Petty, Bolden, and Kira are probably gonna be our best 3 players, I assume they all start.
I like Herb and still think he plays about 20 minutes a game but I’ve seen nothing from him would make me think he should start over one of those three.

Petty has shown desire and hustle but still has not shown he can shoot consistently. He will have to shoot way better to start especially if there is any serious competition from the transfers or the freshmen.

He shot 37% from three as a freshman, that’s really good, especially considering how bad he struggled on the road.
Also has a game where he hit 10 threes, another where he got 8 threes, and has hit 6 threes in a few different games. He can definitely shoot, confidence seems to be his problem, I think Oats helps with that. They say teams take on the personality of their coach and Oats definitely had a lot of confidence, and will be encouraging Petty to step up and be the shooter he is capable of.
I don’t understand how you are using Petty being an inconsistent shooter as a reason Herb Jones will start over him. Herb Jones hasn’t broke 50% from the free throw line yet.

Couldn't this same argument be used for Herb Jones? I don't know who will start. As far as we know, the freshmen might end up starting.

I think the whole team suffered from confidence issues on the court last year, Avery seemed really tentative and unsure of what to do as a college coach a lot of the time and thus so did the players.
None of the players ever really looked comfortable.

Interesting that we are the only school on this graphic that is not on the west coast.
