No homer here - we'll probably be the best team Auburn has played so far this season, won't we?
KenPom has us at 53, NC State at 50

Think so....
will be raining 3 all night as bama gets a 82-78 OT type win in this game

My concern is that in recent games we’ve gotten teams out of their comfort zone and forced them to play at our pace which has played to our advantage for the most part (except maybe against UK with how they shot). With Auburn, I think they’ll be okay with playing at our pace which is just a notch or 2 higher than where they like to play. The uptempo style will be less to our advantage against AU than it has been this season.
However I guess the counterpoint to that is that AU likes to speed teams up as well, and there’s no way we can be sped up

Yeah. Auburn is much better than I thought they would be, but I’m surprised how overhyped they’re getting. They’ve found out how to win their games, but it’s not been all that pretty. They have several close wins against not the greatest competition, a lot of those being at home.
At home:
Georgia Southern 9 pt win
Furman 3-pt win
St. Louis 6-pt win
NC State 6-pt win
Vandy 4-pt win
Away:
South Alabama 1-pt win
They haven’t had any games they’ve lost, but they’ve yet to put together any impressive wins. They haven’t even blown out any reputable teams. They’ve just won.

The fact that they are still undefeated is very impressive, because while they haven't played any really good teams they've played a bunch of decent/solid ones.
I kind of feel like the national media is actually not giving them any respect, and it is kind of understandable. It's kind of crazy how backloaded their schedule is. They play us and Florida on the road, back to back, then South Carolina, @ Ole Miss and Iowa St at home.
They play 1 Top 40 team in their first 20 games. Then....
vs Kentucky
@ Arkansas
vs LSU
vs Alabama
@ Missouri
@ Georgia
vs Tennessee
vs Ole Miss
@ Kentucky
Texas A&M
@ Tennessee
They are clearly a Top 25 team, I just don't think anybody knows if they are really a Top 10 team or not.

An interesting tidbit from my top-25. As of now, every team -- except ONE -- has played at least three games against another team in my top-50. The one exception is #13 Auburn, who has a current mark of 0-0 vs. our top-50.

We have a shot to win.. as long as Beetle Bolden isnt allowed to shoot more than 3 times. He is absolutely terrible... I've never seen someone just put their head down and throw up crap shots over and over again. Shackleford needs to be getting all of Bolden's minutes.

I dont think we have the depth to not play Bolden at all

I agree.. I'm hoping Oats keeps giving Forbes more and more minutes and slowly starts removing Bolden. Forbes cant shoot that well right now but at least he knows it. Bolden thinks he has the green light anytime he touches the ball.

Of the top 15 KenPom teams, AU is tied for 8th in games vs top 100 with 8 games.
It's weird to me, people are either underrating / overrating AU's SOS. This is the perfect argument for why'Strenght of Record' is more important than SOS.

Yep - a bunch of games vs solid teams, none vs Top 20-30 level teams.
Auburn is clearly a solid basketball team. How good they are is the question that hasn't really been answered yet. Should be in 2-3 weeks, though.

Its seems like a combination of fans that don't really follow basketball at all. Some see the undefeated mark and think that is the end all be all. Some see schools they are not use to seeing from football season and assume they are trash teams.
This has been said many times over but Bruce did a great job with the schedule especially considering the expectations before the season started for Auburn.

It requires more than 3 sentences and a little bit of understanding on the part of the listener to explain the following
- Auburn's record, vs their opponents so far, shows without a doubt that they are a solid Top 25 team, as beating that many good not great teams and not slipping up once is either (a) Insanely lucky or (b) a sign that you are a good, solid ball club or (c) some combination
- Auburn has not played a Top 30 team yet, which calls into question HOW good they are, as we don't know whether they are good enough to beat very good teams. There are some teams that do what they do very well but when the competition level reaches a certain point they just are't quite good enough, or they are good enough some nights and not good enough others. Basically, this could apply to 5-6 mid majors who go 28-4 every year.
- TL/DR, you can both see that record and say "Auburn is really solid" and say "I don't know if Auburn is a Top 10 team". Both are true, I think.
Doesn't fit on twitter though. Also, because it is going to be played out shortly, it kind of feels like a worthless long form debate/discussion to get into for most I'm guessing. It's one thing to have this conversation about UCF in football, because you know there probably won't be a conclusion. This Auburn unknown will reach a firm conclusion after they play @ Alabama, @ Florida, vs Kentucky, @ Arkansas, vs LSU.
We'll know.

I think Auburn is a top 25 team. I just don’t think they’re top 10, much less top 5. I don’t think Auburn has had a terrible SOS, and I don’t really think any of us have even implied that. Auburn just doesn’t have any impressive wins. We’ll see how good Auburn is though. Your latter half of SEC play is brutal.

I think AU looks/plays more like a 10-15 type team but this season there is an argument for AU as a 5-10 team. Past #4, no argument is that much better than the others to be 5-10

KenPom has AU as a 13-5 conf team and I think that is pretty reasonable withing +/- 1 game. I do not believe the top of the SEC is that good this year

I think this season for Auburn is somewhat similar to Alabama’s season under Gottfried when we rose to number one in the rankings. It wasn’t that Alabama was that good that season it was just that everyone in front of us kept losing a game when we did not and we moved up slowly but surely until we Landed at number one.
