Richmond has a good offense, Gilyard is one of the best all around guards in the country. We held them to around their average, which is 76 points a game. They scored 93 vs Vandy.

Alabama has the 15th ranked scoring offense in the country, not bad. Averaging 82 points a game.

Sure is a far cry from the Grant days when it seemed we were in the 50s most games

Releford would kill in this offense.

True . But if these mid majors are scoring mid to high seventies .....Idk

I wouldn't sweat it. Most of the mid-majors we have played are pretty solid teams. Richmond has a handful of wins over power conference teams and the only real blemish on their OOC schedule is the loss to Radford.

After the solid win over Richmond, #Bama jumps 13 spots to 65 in the latest NET ratings. Not a bad position to be in entering conference play.

I’m still saying we have no shot at the tournament. It’s nice to see that the team has improved dramatically since the start of the season, but we still haven’t beaten a team with legit size and skill down low.

Given our poor record currently, we’ll probably need to go well above .500 in conference. I don’t see it.

We should’ve started the season with easier opponents to let the guys get their feet wet in the new system.

I tend to agree. If we had held on against Penn State or if Kira hadn't missed those fricking FTs against Penn I would feel a little differently right now. If we somehow manage to find ourselves at 9-7 after our first 4 conference games I think we may sneak in though. We probably need 11 conference wins and a W over K-State to feel good about where we are heading into the SECT, so stealing a couple out of this tough stretch we open up with is pretty important. If we are 8-8 or 7-9 then we would need to play lights out the rest of the way to make it. We just have zero margin of error because of how poorly we started the season.

Yeah, man, that Penn game really hurts a lot. If we were sitting at 9-4 with only true road losses at Penn St and Rhode Island and neutral losses to North Carolina and Iowa St, I'd feel pretty good about our chances.

At any rate, I'm mainly just happy with the way we're playing and that we're going into conference play with a chance.

Alabama slowly making a move up the ladder this season. Crimson Tide have steadily climbed over the last few weeks. Tonight, Alabama downed a pretty good Richmond squad, exceeding expectations to defeat the Spiders by a dozen points.

I think we have a shot, just based on the way we are playing and the rate at which we are improving.

However, we do not have much room for error on two fronts: losses (obviously) and key injuries.

We do have interior defense issues, but I’m not overwhelmingly concerned about teams with good big men. There aren’t a ton of them to begin with, and we can cause those teams trouble in other ways.

Saturday is such a fascinating test case of how we’re playing and how real it is. Florida is in some ways a bad matchup - they do have a good big man and they are a good defensive team with length and athletes. And it’s on the road and just a hugely important game in general. We win that and 2-2 in the first four is exponentially more likely.

I’ve tried to keep my expectations moderate with this team but Oats has made it difficult the last 4 games.

Oats has done a fantastic job from where this team started. Ball handling has improved, defensive play has improved, passing game is improving and shooting with confidence has become contagious.

But I also think Oats himself has improved. Five short yrs as a HC in the major college ranks and he’s showing he can hang so far. That program was left in a mess but he’s proving he can fix it.

I just really don't want to talk about the NCAA Tournament. I just want to enjoy watching these guys play. If the NCAAT becomes a realistic possibility as we get towards March, great, but I don't want to see this team get better and improve and have fun and boil it all down to NET and games we have to win and checklist stuff.

Yeah, a Florida W would be yuge, but honestly, I don't expect it. Florida was picked to finish in the top 3 in the league and it's time for league play. We are about to step up in class and we'll see just how far we've come. But I don't think we're there yet. Tall order for a road win against a top tier team in the SEC to open league play. I just think that's too much to ask at this juncture. I'll be happy to stay close and compete.

Oats has a bunch of coaches around the team at the games. (lots of suits). Has he taken a tip from CNS and hired him some analysts?

Agree... Big test against UF. It’s a game I don’t need to watch.
But I will.

Part of me thinks that this is just another little streak of decent play from an Alabama basketball team that gets us all on the bandwagon only to find ourselves disappointed halfway through the conference slate when we are 4-5. The other, smaller, less abused part of me thinks that this is the first Alabama team I can even remember that has an easily described identity and teams like that tend to get better over time and not worse.

We fall for it every year. Last year we started awful(including getting blown out by Northeastern)and we all were melting. Then got hot and got to 10-3(with a win over UK) and we all bought in again only to get our hearts ripped out by the collapse.

But I do think the culture and attitude is 100x better this year under Oats

We're now ranked number 10 in the country in PPG. Ranked number 1 in the SEC in PPG
