Really hope this is starting to be our turning point. We had 5 players in double figures (1 off the bench) last night. They play like that and we'll be winning games.

Everytime I watched Javian Davis, I wish we would get him more involved offensively.

Javian is the most skilled big we have had since Jamychal, but I think to really play a big role in this kind of offense he's going to need to continue to work on his strength and conditioning and teach himself to shoot 3s. His shot looks good, so I see no reason why he can't get there. He's just a throwback big man playing in a modern offense. He'd have been a beast with Grant.

I think he could easily add a 3 point shot. His stroke at the free throw line is good, and good free throw shooters are generally just good shooters.

I think he’s going to get better and better and be a really solid player for us throughout his career.

I’d actually argue, outside of a jump shot, he’s more skilled. His footwork is the best I’ve seen at Alabama in the post. He’s also a very solid defender. Hedges screens better than any big man I’ve seen at Alabama and is pretty adept at steals for a big man.

I hate to say that SFA was a big win, but it was. We had some turnovers, but we seem to be relaxing into the system more. We just need to keep doing what we are doing, whether the results are good or bad this season.

I got excited by how we played vs SFA. That's the team I was hoping to see all season, which I will admit was unrealistic, their was gonna be a learning curve with this new system. We seem to be improving. If we can play defense like we did the other night we will steal a few games we aren't supposed to.

SFA was definitely a big win.

However, I'm hesitant to say we're necessarily getting more comfortable with Oates' system.

Doesn't it seem like we played a LOT slower on offense than we have in other games?

Maybe it's just that SFA did better than anyone else has stopping Kira with the ball?

One of the biggest positives is that this makes about 4 straight games where Petty has performed like an All-SEC player -- constant motor and wreaking havoc on defense + making 3 pt shots.

I think what everyone should be excited about is that we are scoring a lot of points for a team with not a lot of pure shooters. When Oates gets his players in that can run his system and can shoot? Watch out.

Maybe Oats slowed it down by design. We don’t have the depth to go balls to the wall for 40 minutes, we turn the ball over too much and get sloppy when we try to go that fast, and they are too tired to play good defense at that pace. Oats is no dummy. He looked around and said maybe full speed would serve us better than flank speed right now. And it worked pretty well. Defense was much better, turnovers were down and the offense didn’t suffer greatly and we got the W. I think it was a deliberate slowdown.

That is what I was hoping we would do. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk. Play fast now. Play at warp speed next year after everyone has gotten accustomed to playing fast.

I was watching some other SEC teams play over the weekend, and I'm still befuddled by how we got swept by A&M last year. They are miserable, and were not much better last season. I think that's my biggest goal for Oats & this team from here on out, is to not drop games against the bottom feeders and all the other teams that you're supposed to beat.
