Absolute worst time for Saban to retire. Probably going to cost Alabama a playoff berth next year.

This is really dumb.

I’m not a rocket scientist, but I do live in Huntsville, and by my calculations it appears that a 12 team playoff gives you a 66.6% higher chance to make it than a 4 team playoff. So statistically it’s the absolute best time for Saban to retire and not cost Alabama a shot at the playoffs.

TRob - there is/was a serious concern with the TRob as DC situation. I don't think TRob has ever been THE GUY to build a staff. That is something De Boer wants, his DC to sellect/build the defensive team.

I am not sure if having him learn how to build a defensive team was the best option for Alabama.

Time to just move on from the guy.

DeBoer just needs to bring his staff from UW at this point. Commitment to a staff at this point is more important than trying to hire some guys he doesn't even know because they know the south.

Just put a staff together. Recruit the roster, and make changes in year 2 if necessary.

Had no idea. It was still a dumb thing to say, even for barn logic, if there is such a thing.

Thanks for letting me know.

When would it have ever been a good time?

He obviously didn't have the fire anymore. We've all seen the last 3 years where the offense is a complete cluster f*** or the defense can't finish games.

If he continued the program would have diminished slowly but surely and when he left it might have looked like Bowden at FSU.

He left with a championship caliber roster still here. He could have selfishly held on but he didn't. The man should be commended for how he left.

No on the defense staff. I mean at this point if we have to wait a few more days for a guy like minter or similar I'd rather do that. Even if Downs transferrs, a guy like minter can do more with less. Hopefully he doesn't transfer and Deboer can at least get him to wait on the hire. Portal open for 30 days what's a few more

My question was on Monday of last week was Nick trying to just hire a WR coach and OLB coach or was he trying to hire a DC? That process must have been the final nail in his just retire because he couldn't get anybody to sign on to the deal without giving them a firm commitment.

He couldn't convince TRob to stay and he's going to get Minter? Sure I'd call him, but it's important to have a staff. The longer you wait, the more incompetent he looks. It's not like UW's defense was terrible. Held Oregon to 33 and 31. Held Texas to 31. UW gave up approx 24 ppg. It's not like they were getting blown out. I can take being 51st in defense if my offense is top 3. People act like UW's defense was trash. UW's offense put their defense into terrible positions time after time in the title game and they finally broke late. UW's defense wasn't terrible. And they don't have the kind of talent that's on BAMA's roster, even if Downs does leave.

I get wanting to make a splash hire, but at this point, it's more important to just have a staff and get busy. If players transfer, wish them well, and get busy on the recruiting trail.

8-4 or 9-3 likely won't get a team in the playoffs.

I said in the beginning I was fine with the UW CO-DC thing they had going on. It seemed to work with much less talent than we have.

Bring Kane Wommack in a long with Juice Brown if all else fails.

Sure I see the number but look at the results? They made stops when they had too and broke late on a much more talented team in UM than they were. Hell the dropped 4th down and missed passes alone spelled doom but they stuck around into the 4th.

We need someone soon or it won’t matter much as we won’t have someone herding the flock.
