It absolutely is a step up from BoB for 100 reasons.

Someone earlier posted how Notre Dame had Top 10 team talent and then used their offensive stats under Rees to depict a poor job. Just going back through their 2017 class and moving forward, the vast majority of their top recruits were LBs, Safeties, OL/DL and TEs. A couple have been QBs but we have all seen how QB evaluation can go, Phillip Sims, Blake Barnett, Cooper Bateman, David Cornwell, etc. As the old saying goes, “You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shite!”

A pretty flawed metric.

Rees is at worst a smart offensive coach who out thinks himself and doesn't respond well when the first thing he wants to do doesn't work.
At best he's a super young, super bright offensive coach who has been working with Northwestern/BC level WR/QB talent and will be like a kid in a candy shop with our guys.
Either way, there is no planet where this is some sort of disaster. And we sure as hell won't be running 95% option routes where 19-20 year old WRs make the wrong read half the time and end up standing in the same spot while our QB is forced to run in circles making things up on the go.
I dunno if this will work but jeebus the response to it like the world is ending is difficult to read over and over again. We've literally done this with OCs 3-4 times during the Saban era with an unknown/young OC with what looks like an up and down career and half or more of the fanbase thought was a disaster and wanted the fun guy instead. All those guys were excellent here. The only one that wasn't was an old guy who had 20 years of work to judge.
Anyway, if this is the hire then we'll wait and see how it goes. Not sure I can deal with 6 months of back and forth self loathing over how we didn't hire the super hot name OC that everybody wanted.

Exactly what I wanted to point out. Overall they may be Top 10, but the offensive side wasn’t anywhere near Top 10.

He might end up great and I hope he is, but anyone that comes on here and says they had him as one of their top 3, maybe top 5, choices to replace BoB is just not being honest.
Saban doesn't waste his time on fan forums, but he did say anonymous negative Nancy keyboard warriors should "ST*U!"

This is good solid pick up for OC. What lot of people doesn't realize is that we have young qB rooms.... We need someone who can develop QB. This is it. He has an opportunity to elevate his game as OC under Saban. Very good hire. Tommy can be gone within 2 years and be a HC or OC in NFL.

I appreciate the positive remarks... and usually I take a wait and see approach with things (it took me a while to abandon Milroe as our next starter.) But this hire... well, I ain't impressed. Again, impressing me doesn't matter - I get it. If we go grantham on the DC - I am out

Right? We need to skip ahead to the Milroe vs. Simpson debates!

I'm not hyped up about the hire by any means, but come on now. Any of our position coaches and half the analysts would have been an upgrade over that clown.

Not even being positive. Being based in reality. This hire will at worst be "pretty good but frustrating at times, possibly key moments that define seasons against good teams", which would be really irritating. At best he'll be a whiz kid who just needed talent at key spots. I have no clue where he will land on that spectrum.
There is no "flaming disaster burns it all to the ground" option here.

My post history does not reflect a "throw the baby out with the bathwater" overreaction type tendency. But this hire sucks. I hope I am wrong

Using this boards mentality, I’ll go ahead and say it…..
Wrap it up folks. We are a basketball school. Nate Oats is the Captain now. Reduce football funding to get a new arena.
Sorry FOGs.
