No joke.

And I think it's a damn shame that players have to sit a half in game 1 for a hit the previous year.

My two concerns with this FSU game is 1.) Jimbo vs Pruitt/Saban and 2.) Francois' ability scramble and extend plays. FSU has a few studs on defense (James, Andrews, and McFadden) who will make us pay if Jalen is careless, but honestly Charles Kelly isn't that great of a DC and his schemes are downright horrible at times.

I think Jimbo is going to put together some combo routes, that if the DBs are too aggressive or undisciplined, will equal big yards or points. As far as Francois goes, Evans, Miller, SDH, etc. are going to play their best and make his arse pay if he scrambles.

I agree but that hit in the Michigan game was a blatant target. Rules are rules.

They have several studs. Have a top five defensive line with depth and probably have the most talented secondary in the nation. Linebacker is a weak though IMO. You are right about Charles Kelly though. If Jimbo Fisher wasn't so stubbornly loyal Kelly would be gone. Has not made the most of the talent and struggles with QB's that can run. This game is gonna be a lot closer than this board thinks and I think Free Shoes can win it.

I think FSU can beat us and the game will be close, unless one of the following happen

FSU OL has not improved much
Our running game gets going early
Turnovers for points

Y'all better show a little concern for Cam Akers. He will be one of the top 3 backs we face this year. Some had him ranked higher than Najee. If the OL gives him a crack, he could make us pay. This will be a good test for us. I just hope it doesn't go into the 4th quarter still a game because I have no confidence in our FG unit.

I'm gonna go full Gump here, but, no running back scares me. Ever.

The only running backs in the Saban era I've left the game going "damn that guy was terrifying" were McFadden and Ezekial Elliot. That's it.

A true freshman starting his first game out of a prostyle offense with an average offensive line doesn't scare me one bit. At all.

At this point we have to assume Jacobs is out for FSU, right?

Appears Jacobs is out, unless he magically shows up at practice today or tomorrow. He must have had a terrible hammy injury because he's been out awhile. That really stinks, because I think he's our best change of pace/third down back and would have had some big plays against FSU. This opens the door for Najee to jump into the rotation and show what he's got, but wish Jacobs was healthy. I'm guessing we'll try to get him healthy for our SEC schedule.

I'm not scared of Akers at all. FSUs OL won't be able to open up enough holes for him to run through. For frick's sake, we held Fournette to like 100yds in his whole career and he had a much better OL to block for him.

True but LF never had a QB worth a crap to make us respect the pass game. FSU has a good QB who can run and throw, so we won't be able to key on just the RB like we did with LSU. Not saying Akers is going to have a huge game, I don't think he will--but they may have some decent runs in the game.

It's a trick! Saban is hiding him so FSU forgets he exists.

But, seriously, it sucks for Jacobs. I thought he could have a pretty big role. I hope it IS just a pulled hamstring and he gets to return soon.

The more info I get and the more I analyze this game, I think Bama wins handily. I actually got much more confident recently after reading some FSU boards and talking to a few FSU fans.

FSU has some issues:
1) Oline is bad. Not mediocre. Not serviceable. Just Bad. Granted, their numbers in the run game were decent last year, but that is generally attributed to having their best RB of all time in the backfield.
2) No gamebreakers at WR. They believe that they have a good unit, and that one or more are ready to break out. But as of this sentence, there is no name Bama should be afraid of in this group.
3) No experience at RB. Basically, unless Akers is the truth from jump street, the starter (Patrick) has like 13 carries in his career and is generally regarded as "maybe he'll be pretty good". But Patrick and the next guy have basically no experience and aren't regarded as definite future stars by their fanbase.
4) The fanbase as a whole believes that they have 3 bad coaches - Tricket (Oline), Kelly (DC), and another guy I can't remember. And regarding Kelly, many FSU guys have said he frequently calls boneheaded games sometimes and will definitely give up numerous big plays with bad play calling.
5) FSU's defense is legit - no doubt. But their LB corps is not the strength of the D, and is well behind the Dline and secondary. I see it as a bit of a weakness.
6) Their kicking and return game are both a concern.

In summation, FSU has a roster that is generally regarded to be close to or as talented as Bama's, and I think that's true. However, this looks to be a real down year for them Offensively, coupled with some not-so-great coaching in spots. I think we put the shoes to FSU pretty good. My only concern is that their D is good enbough to theoretically give us trouble, and they have the athleticism to get some turnovers and non-offensive touchdowns.

However, I have spoken to multiple level-headed FSU fans who say the spread has no business being -7. It should be much higher, as FSU is likely to be a 9-win team this year. The Oline is just too bad. TIFWIW.

Take notice board: This is how you create an argument for your position. While i cant be sure how much of that is true, esp the WR part, I will say you produced a detailed strong argument.

Sorry, one more thing: I believe it to be a significant advantage for any team who'll trot out a new offensive scheme in game one. The opposing team simply doesn't have any film to watch.

Sure, They can watch Patriots film and our film from years gone by and try to put together an approximation of what we'll do, but it's much more work for them than usual and a total crapshoot. Hell, LSU has closed fall practices to protect that very advantage.

I see our change in Offensive scheme to be a significant advantage in game 1. (Obviously, this advantage is predicated on running said new scheme at a high level.)

Further elaboration on FSU's oline:

I am the first to say that last year is just that - last year. Every year is different, and each unit of a football team can be significantly different from year to year.

Yes, FSU's Oline was awful last year. Can they improve?

The problem for them is that they lost their best 2 offensive lineman from last year, the best next guy up transferred to auburn, and the pieces this year simply aren't that good. They may actually be worse than last year, and the fanbase is both baffled and angry that their Oline is in such shambles for a team that recruits as highly as they do, hence their dislike of Trickett, their Oline coach.

I do not know if the problem is recruiting or development, or both, but I can say that there is ample logical, tangible evidence that FSU's oline will be bad, just bad, this year.
