TCU beat Alabama, 85-81, in a super-secret scrimmage, source told

@TheMessenger

. Alabama freshman Sam Walter had 29 points and was 7-of-12 from 3. Grant Nelson had 13 and 9 boards, Aaron Estrada had 19 points. Jameer Nelson Jr., had 25 points and 6 assists for TCU, and JaKobe Coles had 18 pts and 9 boards. Bunch of guys injured and didn't play: Sears, Cosby, Dioubate, Wague for Bama and Peavy and Anderson for TCU.

Very nice result and I’m encouraged by it. I was most interested to see how Nelson and Estrada would perform and it looks like they lived up to the billing. Waters going stupid is icing on the cake

Wow…not only were we down 4 players..Rylan Griffen and Wrightsell also no showed. And we still only lost by 4. Very encouraging.

Also..damn we got down by 16 in the 1st half and battled back to take a 6pt 2nd half lead

It's going to take some time for everybody to get comfortable with each other but I'm really encouraged with what the box score shows.

Without (Mark Sears)

Aaron Estrada and Grant Nelson are really like that.

Latrell Wrightsell & Rylan Griffen will be better next time out.

Jarin Stevenson and Sam Walters stepped up.

Kris Parker just needs to keep working.

Also don’t read too much into Rylan. He was another guy who was questionable and went ahead and played

Walters being able to stroke it at around 6’9-6’10 height could be impossible to stop at this level in this system. Similar to Miller.

Dang, that's a pretty great showing given who all was out. Very encouraging for the season. Can't wait!

Even if questionable, 0-7 shooting, 3 turnovers, and -17 +\- in less than 15 min is a really, really bad day. Pringle was the only other minus double digits and Sears didn’t play.

I don’t want to overreact to a meaningless scrimmage and am hoping this isn’t a confidence shaker for Griffin, but the new guys may have to carry this team.

In my personal opinion, Stevenson and Walters might be a good combination.

Rylan will be fine. I dont expect him to be 1st team all-SEC but he will be a solid conteibutor night in and night out. He knows the system and the level if effort that Oats wants. His defense and ability to score from all three levels will get him on the court.

His defense was part of what kept him off the court last year. Sears and Griffen both have talked about needing to improve that this year, so hoping the off-season work will help them be better on ball defenders. He was a bit of a streaky shooter last year as well (similar to Petty), could go 7-8 from 3 a few games in a row or 1-7 multiple games in a row.

Not sure what injury he’s dealing with, but hopefully he heals up quickly because a plus/minus of -1.13 per minute played is about as bad as it gets. He won’t be that bad this season, obviously, but I’m hoping it doesn’t take multiple non-conf games for him to find his game given he was one of the few guys returning from last year.

You can't be serious. If missing a few shots in a glorified practice session he's not even 100% for kills his confidence there has never been a mentally weaker player in the history of the sport. I mean come the frick on.

22-23 Alabama 69 : 99 TCU

Noah Clowney / 28 Min / 4 PTS (FG 2-4 , 3PTS 0-2 , FT 0-1) / 11 REB (2 OREB , 9 DREB) / 4TO / 2PF

23-24 Alabama 81 : 85 TCU

Jarin Stevenson / 30 Min / 10 PTS (FG 2-3 , 3PTS 1-2 , FT 5-6) / 5 REB (2 OREB , 3 DREB) / 2AS / 1ST / 4PF

I know this is just a scrimmage and meaningless, but I believe in the potential for Stevenson. I hope he plays a bigger role than Noah Clowney 2.0.

We lost by 30+ to them in a scrimmage last year and ended up being a 1 seed. Don't overreact. Especially with 4 guys (including a starter) out and Griffen hurt.

Working on the season long thread now. Should be up pretty soon.

This thread will stay around as the recruiting thread.
