I have a stupid theory on Grant Nelson.

When he backed out of the draft, there was a decent sized thread discussion on reddit about it and everyone discussing where he might go.

This weekend 9,000 subreddits, including the CBBall one, went dark. Because they are protesting Reddit's corporate leadership. They started this protest on the 12th.

Could he have been wanting the attention of another large thread to read about himself? Because it's 1 of the biggest places on the internet to discuss something like this. He could be trying to wait out the blackout.

I mean I get it if so, for a guy from a tiny city in ND, this is his first moment in the sun.

So, thats my off the wall idea, that he is trying to wait out the blacked out CBB subreddit .

Fwiw, I said it's stupid.

The latest is he's just doing a few last things for an NDSU professer to sign off on a class and that he will officially announce sometime later this week.

Same thing.

A lot of Bama fans seem to think that for some reason. We didn't get Brandon Miller and the rest of that top 3 recruiting class last year for free. Estrada and Nelson weren't cheap either.

Whos number 1 on yall's transfer wishlist now? I asumme Jarin Stevenson for everybody right?

Stevenson is 6'10 and almost the same weight Clowney was when he enrolled, he isn't 6'8 like his 247 profile says.

I think Nelson is just waiting for the academic stuff to clear. His transcript must look like arse.

Just out of curiosity, whatever (definitively) happened with Aiden Sherrell?

I think Robot Santa posted previously that he wasn't going to reclassify to 2023, but I saw where he visited Ohio State this past weekend.

Is he just doing this now as part of the 2024 class, or did something change with him?
quote:

In a previous update, Sherrell shared some thoughts about the other schools he has visited. They included:

* Alabama: “Alabama was a great visit and I liked the environment. We went to a football game, there was a crazy atmosphere, and I have a great relationship with the coaches. I definitely love their play style for sure.”

Probably not going to reclass but if he does it wont be til December. Seems like a bama lock though whenever he does decide to enroll.

I think we’ll leave one spot open in case he does reclass in December.

It's most definitely Jarin Stevenson.

He's extremely skilled and we most definitely could use his size.

There goes that downvoter on all my posts lol

Hodg left. It's as simple as that.

He did not have the credits yet to reclassify. I think Oats has spent a lot of time recruiting him since Hodgson left.

We had Donnie Freeman locked up when Hodg left then we didn't get him, I think we'll get we'll still get Sherrell whenever he does commit.

Tre Johnson, No. 1 shooting guard in 2024, talks USA Basketball, updates recruitment

Tre Johnson has never won a gold medal before, but it could happen for him this summer.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Dallas (TX) Lake Highlands and the Houston Hoops is among 14 finalists for the USA U19 team that will compete at the 2023 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup later this month in Hungary. The final roster of 12 will be announced this week.

“It would mean a lot to me just being able to compete with other good players knowing that I was one of the 12 taken to represent for the country,” Johnson said Wednesday by phone from Colorado Springs.

He added: “That would be very cool doing the sport you love and competing for the country.

As far as his recruitment, the No. 1 shooting guard in the Class of 2024 has a top six of Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, and Texas.

Coaches from various chools were at USA Basketball this week keeping tabs on the top players. Kansas coach Bill Self and three assistants were in attendance Monday ahead of Game 5 of the NBA Finals for Johnson and several other prospects.

Johnson broke down his top six:

Kentucky: “I could be one of their one-and-done players, one of their guys that comes there for eight months and goes on to be a pro and develop in the NBA.”

Kansas: “I could come in and jell with the team and also try and win the [NCAA] Tournament and also be one of their guards that goes to the NBA.”

Baylor: “I could be one of their guards that they give freedom to, allowed to make plays and also look good on the court and also get ready for the NBA.”

(Johnson’s father, Richard Johnson Jr., played college basketball at Baylor before transferring to Midwestern State. His father is also an assistant coach at Lake Highlands.)

Arkansas: “Also be one of their one-and-done guys but they could help me in different areas of my game. They have a lot of coaches who coached pro teams or were assistant coaches on pro teams, so they kind of know what it looks like.’

Alabama: “They would try to use me the way that they used Brandon [Miller] to raise his stock and help get better, and develop him for the NBA”

Texas: “Texas’s main pitch to me was I could be one of their one-and-done guys who comes in, develops what he wants to goes to the NBA.”

Johnson said he has no timetable on a decision but hopes to visit Alabama and Arkansas sometime this summer.

“I don’t have a time frame,” he said. “When I know for sure is probably when I’m going to commit.”

Tre Johnson

Brutally honest - pretty much all of his comments were “where can I develop my game and get to the NBA in 8 months?” He forgot to mention the highest bidder part. Most of these kids do not give 2 shits about college basketball or the school they pick.

Considering it's been proven that guys could come straight from high school and compete in the NBA, it's stupid that they changed it to begin with. They helped letting people into the g league. But guys like LeBron should be allowed to go straight to the league. The g league pays them well. But what ends up happening is they end up competing against schools, rather than it being an obvious decision.

But if a guy is a #1 recruit in his class, he expects to be a one and done. Can't say I blame them for thinking that way.

The NBA has also collectively realized that it would rather develop players itself than rely on college programs to do it, which is why you see so many of these guys who really just view their one year in college as a necessary evil. They know they're going to get drafted on potential even if they play like total shite instead of thinking they have to play their way into being drafted.

The G-League has mitigated some of that by giving guys who have no desire to go to college another path, but NIL has bridged that gap a lot.
