Tim Watts has been getting some good scoops since BOl moved to On3. He was the first one to break where Nelson was gonna be visiting and when, and then has this nugget today. Maybe this means that Bamaonline is gonna put more of a focus on bball recruiting than they did under 247.

At least in this Nelson situation he seems to have a better connected source than anyone else.

You have to think that Stansbusy is an “NIL payment” master as long as he has been dabbling in it.

His NIL payments can be summed up as "I like you. I like your face. I also like your name. I can personally sponsor you for $75,000 in unmarked, non-consecutive $100 bills if you sign."

It has been more than 10 years and I still hate that slimy motherfricker as much as any coach in college athletics.

the mid-major that has 5 juniors/seniors, runs their stuff to perfection and terrifies big teams.

SDSU and FAU just scared the crap out of quite a few big teams.

Creighton and St. Mary's are staples in the tourney, and usually as pretty high seeds.

Those mid-majors will always exist because there will always be older players who are not getting time and want a shot. The difference will most likely be that instead of having 4 or 5 guys that came in as freshmen and grew together, they came in as juniors or grad transfers to create a really old team.

FAU’s main players from last year are returning to FAU too I am sure they could have transferred and gotten more money if they had wanted.

They’ll probably be ranked in the top 10 to start the season.

FAU is a good counter to that for sure. I don't really see SDSU as a mid-major and certainly don't see Creighton as one (they're in the Big East now). St. Mary's is a borderline top 25 team every season now.

I was thinking more of a recruiting class at a mid major that isn't a traditional really good program that is there for 3 years together and is really good year 3 and then year 4 had them all back as seniors. The one you brought up, FAU, is a perfect example of that. But they're the outlier at this point, because after year 3 most of the time 2-3 of those guys are leaving for a top 20 program.

Look at St Bonny last year - they lost like 3 starters to power programs (including Dom). 10 years ago those 3 guys stay there and they are a Top 25 team last year. Ohio, same story. Sears and Vander Plas would have still been there. Instead, they're key players on top 20 teams in power leagues. Wichita lost like 3 guys (Council was one of them).

I get what you're saying. There are definitely tiers to mid-majors. St. Mary's and SDSU haven't had a top 50 recruiting class in the last 5+ years, though, and it isn't that hard to achieve. UW-Milwaukee got at top 50 class with just a single recruit.

Even this year, teams like Princeton, Furman, and College of Charleston were headaches.

I hate the portal too, but I actually think tournaments like this past year are going to happen more frequently. As bigger schools struggle to figure out chemistry and deal with unexpected transfers, I think smaller schools will continue to keep their solid core guys and build contenders. That's just my opinion, and it will probably not pan out like that at all.

For him, NIL means "now it's legal."

I've been to Wichita (well, drive through it and dropped to get gas and hit a store). And they made the right decision by getting the hell out of Wichita.

I've never been to Wichita, but Topeka is one of the worst places i've ever been.

Probably a longshot, but if we get Nelson AND Kaluma, we'd have to have the #1 transfer class, right?

Pretty sure on any website we would be and that would be with Oats also replacing his entire coaching staff. Heck, just landing one of them is still a very impressive portal season and that's counting losing one guy unexpectedly from the portal and Bediako with a kind of shocking decision.

One of the best for sure. Estrada, Nelson, and Kaluma are all top 15 transfers imo. Wrighsell is a solid player too.
