Kinda random.

I was griping at the process fee for the reave brothers basketball camp. $6.50 for a $200 basketball camp.

So I decide to see how much a basketball camp at img was...
$3,419 which includes room and board.

I need to start a prep school. Anybody want to join me...

I'll be interested to see how this compares to the final preseason polls and what things look like late february. To your point I suspect that people putting together these preseason forecasts are well aware of which fan bases do the clicking and that may have a significant influence on which teams and how they are ranked.

I want to see the price of seats before I get too excited about the new gym. Byrne's pricing model is from Arizona, from his time as AD there. Word is a floor seat will have a $250,000 one time donation, then the annual Tide Pride fee, which, if it is like football this year, will be three times what you and I are paying now. Then the ticket. How much will tickets go up? I'm guessing a 16th row baseline seat like I have now will have something like a $50,000 one time donation and around $600-$750 per seat annual Tide Pride donation. A slick new arena sounds exciting, but I'm happy with my near 45 years of season tickets in Coleman - at today's prices. How much are you willing to put down for the one-time donation? Is $50,000 no big cost to you? $250,000?

yep, and they will decrease the number of seats with the new arena, so it will makes it easier to gouge us.

Tampering is unfortunately going to be next to impossible to prove as it pertains to incentivizing kids to enter the portal. The NCAA doesn't have subpoena power and as long as no one was Hugh Freeze stupid all the communications will have been on burner phones that aren't subject to open records acts. If Muss gets turned in for tampering it'll be Texas who does it over this Holland deal though. No doubt about that. That situation will raise all kinds of red flags if he waits 4 months after they fire Beard to ask for a release from his LOI only to sign with Arkansas a few days later.

They have to write something to make people click. I clicked on it. Still way too early though since we don't even know the final roster. If Chuck returns along with JQ to go along with the additions through the portal and hopefully either Sherrell or a high impact transfer, who knows how good this team can be. Excited about some of the freshman.

Yeah, definitely don't think it's easy to prove, but damn. Dude puts his name in the portal and not even 10 minutes later Arkansas is essentially named the leader. Is Muss sending out text messages or Venmos to these guys

I honestly wish we'd tamper more, but it doesn't seem like we are. Seems like we have had to work for all of the guys we've gotten from the portal, other than maybe Sears and Walton, and even then they were local guys.

For the past week, I've been looking forward to this guy hitting the portal, and, as soon as he hits it, I want the NBA to take him.

I think it's pretty likely that the whole Arkansas contacts every person who enters the portal thing is really just meant to depress their batting average with portal targets so much that they stay under the radar. If they were signing every kid they contacted it wouldn't take much to figure out they were getting a head start, even with NIL. So they contact like 500 kids despite only really being interested in the < 10 of them they have been in contact with since January.

I agree about us tampering more though. Our portal recruiting has felt like we're playing catch up every year relative to a lot of schools. It has only felt easy with the guys who have a personal connection to the state. Meanwhile you have a handful of programs building rosters from nothing out of the portal every year and landing like 5 kids over the course of 3 weeks. It's obvious what is going on, no one can possibly stop it, and there's no sense in fighting with one hand tied behind our backs when no one can enforce the rule requiring it.

Musselman has a blank check from NIL sponsors, for any amount of money to buy players he wants. He will just run off a couple more current players to make room. You would think he would have a hard time carrying a 13 man roster and playing only a 7-8 man rotation, but the up front NIL money must be great.

This.

The level of NIL is a much bigger issue for us than tampering. Without the NIL, you don’t really have anything to use in tampering except fit (playing time, style, etc.). Fit matters, but it won’t move the needle the way NIL does.

If these guys are going to schools just for NIL deals alone then I don't want them here period no matter how good they are. I'm sure Nate Oats is the same way if there sole focus is NIL.

Come on Joka…you are a 18yo kid whose family has struggled your whole life and the NBA isn’t a guarantee…you gonna play at Alabama for 50k or Arkansas for 500k?

I worry about the reduced seating and would strongly prefer the arena to be 12-13k rather than 10k.

We don’t go to enough games for me to shell out that kind of money. So we typically buy a multi game package and hit the secondary market if needed. 50-250k can buy a lot of secondary market tickets over the years, even if prices go up. If prices get too ridiculous like some of the AU game prices, I’ll just try to go to more post season games instead of regular season (the team should be pretty good if ticket prices are high).

All that said, I definitely feel for longtime season ticket holders if they get priced out. That’s certainly not the purpose of a new arena, and I hope seniority is respected in those decisions.
