Not indefinitely but it’s 100% still a factor less than 1 month after the season ended

Ok. So how are we going to fill that spot now?
Tre White from USC potentially. We just made contact a day or two ago.

I understand where y'all are coming from but I think this was the wrong decision and I totally disagree with it.

Not sure why anyone from SoCal would go to a school that would kick them out over weed.

To be fair, Dudes from SoCal may have more common sense or discretion than Walton

Not sure why anyone thinks they should be allowed to break a law without repercussions no matter how outdated the law may be.

It's a dang misdemeanor. We gonna kick dudes out for getting speeding tickets too?
ETA: This guy likely goes through pre-trial diversion and doesn't even end up with the misdemeanor on his record.

If there hadn't been guns in the car there is absolutely no way he faces any significant ramifications, much less losing his spot on the team. I mean let's be honest, he is getting the boot over something that wasn't actually illegal. Like I said, I think it's a necessary evil right now. I don't feel good about the move though. Walton is paying for the sins of someone he has probably never even met before.

Yep and he'll go on to another school and do just fine. Hopefully he doesn't play us during the season.

I'm just glad he hadn't signed yet. If he had this would not have been such an easy thing to wash our hands of. You can't kick him out of school for a non-crime that occurred off campus and kicking him out of school for a first time misdemeanor weed charge would have set a ridiculous precedent that would undoubtedly blow up in our faces.

Bro, Walton KNEW what we just went through for the past 2 months.
If you're dumbassed enough to roll around with a gun and weed on the Strip 2 months removed from the media circus around Bama basketball when you haven't even officially signed and aren't even on the team yet, then you're just flat out too dumb to play here.

But there were. To be perfectly clear, I think it's dumb. I don't give a shite about weed at all. It's dumb that it's illegal in pretty much any capacity. But the guy was with his buddies with weed and guns like three months after what we just went through. Time and place. Kid made a dumb arse decision. Nate is doing what he has to do and this is a smart (and only) PR move by the University. If the Miles situation never happened then Walton would probably still be on the team tbh and nobody would really care. But why deal with this right now when you don't have to deal with it? Cut bait and recast for another fish in the portal. Just easy common sense business really imo.

Yep, sucks, but this is the right move from PR and protecting the program standpoint.
It’s really not that hard to not be in a car with weed and guns, but here we are. A shame.

Honestly, the new gun law makes it impossible to differentiate people who use guns responsibly and those purposefully carrying during illegal activity. Regardless of whether one likes the new law or not, this would be even more clear cut if permits were still required. If all parties had a permit, might not have been such a big issue. If the guns were illegal as well, no brainer decision regardless of whether the Miles situation had happened or not.

quote:How does that work, exactly? Alabama was (and still is) a shall-issue state, so the only difference between someone legally carrying a loaded handgun now vs. a few months ago is that a few months ago that person had to donate money to the county sheriff in exchange for a piece of paper they were compelled by law to issue.

Because people purposefully carrying guns due to illegal activity don’t want the sheriff’s office to know about the guns. Ever heard of a drug dealer carrying a registered firearm?

According to a couple reliable people (one was a reliable TI poster), this was already the last straw for Walton. He'd apparently been in trouble since he committed. They didn't post specifics, but apparently this isn't related solely to the arrest.

So anyways... sounds like we're now looking for a wing with some length to go along with still looking for a PF that can also play some Center.
Posted on 4/24/23 at 8:58 pm to Bama3714
That doesn't make sense to me. He hadn't even signed yet. He's not able to use the facilities, he's not enrolled, and it's been all of like 3 weeks since he committed. Unless the dudes he was arrested with have known gang affiliations and he had already been told to stay the frick away from them, I'm not sure what he could have possibly been getting into during that time that didn't rise to the level of criminal activity, but still got him deep in the doghouse during that short of a time frame.
