I tend to agree. Making sure they are taken care of financially by the collective and assisting them with expanding their NIL earnings after they are on campus I am fine with. Getting into bidding wars is where I think you begin to run the risk of creating locker room tension and bringing malcontents into your program.

Yeah and then you might have to re-recruit those guys every year with more money or they’ll go into the portal looking for the highest bidder again cause they don't care about the team or the school or even winning really in some cases.
I like how we are approaching it. Get guys who want to be here first and foremost and then give those guys good competitive NIL deals.

If Oats continues to send a couple per year to the NBA in the early rounds, we'll be OK!
I agree, Oats had shown he could get guards to the league but now we are going to have a SF and a PF drafted in the top 20 it looks like. If you want to play in one of the most fun offenses in college to play in, get developed, drafted high, win, and get paid competitively then come to Alabama.
Sounds like a pretty good recruiting pitch to me.

2024 Four-Star Donnie Freeman on official visit to Alabama
Donnie Freeman, a four-star power forward in the class of 2024, arrived at the University of Alabama for an official visit on Wednesday and will be in Tuscaloosa until his departure on Saturday. He will also be in attendance for the game as the Crimson Tide take on Mississippi State this evening.
The 6-foot-8 junior out of Washington (D.C.) St. John’s narrowed his list to five (Texas, Iowa, Maryland, LSU, Rutgers) in late-November, before re-opening his recruitment by the end of December. The Crimson Tide officially offered Freeman in April of 2022.
Freeman has also taken official visits to Texas and Iowa, whereas his trips to Maryland and Rutgers were both unofficially.
The DMV native ranks as the No. 37 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).

Five schools are recruiting four-star senior Kris Parker the hardest
Kris Parker, a four-star prospect and one of the best available players in the 2023 class, says five programs are recruiting him the hardest.
“Alabama, Missouri, Villanova, UCF, and Florida State,” Parker responded when asked via text message.
The 6-foot-7 shooting guard out of Quincy (Fla.) Crossroad Academy has taken official visits to UCF, Alabama, and Villanova. He was also scheduled to visit Missouri officially on December 3rd, but the visit never occurred. It has yet to be rescheduled.
Additionally, Parker had a commitment date set for December 12th, but decided to postpone to take more time to make a decision.
Parker ranks as the No. 84 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are much higher on him, ranking him 64th overall in the class.
Along with the schools mentioned above, Parker has also received offers from DePaul, NC State, Illinois, and others.
Parker Scouting Report
“Kris Parker is a long and rangy wing,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “He has confidence on the ball in the half-court, and his ability as a shotmaker continues to rise. He will need to continue adding strength and overall sharpening his tools and shot selection. There is a lot of natural talent here. There is an upside still to go, and the intrigue lies with the fact he continues to get better a little better each time out.”

The announcement yesterday of the new Learfield 15 year contract for NIL, with an NIL center office within Bryant Denny for all 600 plus athletes at Alabama is huge. We will not have a rogue booster writing $750,000 NIL checks for players to sign, but we may have the most organized NIL resource operation in college sports. This is a better formula for sustained recruiting success than somebody like the rich Miami or Syracuse guys or Walmart/ Tyson/ Hunt in Arkansas corporate boosters.

2025 guard Salim London is poised for another strong travel season
Last travel season we saw plenty of talented players and teams suit up and succeed on the HoopSeen platform. One of the most consistent top performers from event to event was 2025 Hoover (AL) guard Salim London.
London, a versatile 6-foot-4 combo guard, left his mark with the Alabama Fusion in a number of events, including Bama Jam, Best of the South, and Bob Gibbons. Those tournaments were some of our events that are historically loaded with talent, whether it be players or teams.
The sophomore has continued his promising track record during the high school season. In fact, he was one of the most impressive prospects I saw last week at Thompson’s MLK National Showcase. The slick lefty made plays off the bounce and scored at the rim, but one of the strongest aspects of his game is his shooting ability. London made shots consistently in his game against Alexander (GA) on his way to 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
“The season is going very well, especially with us having a winning record,” London told HoopSeen.com. “I would say my ball-handling and ability to make tough shots are the best part of my game right now.”
Auburn was on-hand to see the event and thought London was impressive, too. The Tigers extended a scholarship offer following his standout performance.
“I like Coach [Bruce] Pearl and their system. They’re a good team,” he said when asked about the Auburn offer.
The Tigers joined Alabama and Ole Miss as respective scholarship offers for the four-star guard. It makes things interesting early in London’s recruitment, mainly because his father, Tarik, played for Alabama in the late 90s.
As expected, London grew up an Alabama fan. The Crimson Tide offered him last year, so head coach Nate Oats and his staff have a head start in his recruitment. An assistant watched Hoover in action against Tuscaloosa County a few weeks ago.
“I like Alabama’s system a lot. I feel like I would have the most fun and be successful playing in their system out of all the schools who have offered me.”
It’s still a few months before we release our 2025 national rankings, but there’s a pretty good chance London finds his name in our initial rankings. He’ll be the top 2025 prospect in our initial Alabama rankings, too.
Keep an eye on Hoover as the state playoffs start to creep in. They’re widely regarded as one of the top teams in Alabama’s 7A classification.

Something to monitor? @alabamambb only follows a couple hundred people on twitter. The only players they follow are former/current Bama players, current signees…and Donnie Freeman who is currently on a visit

Interesting. How many class of '24 guys would spend Wednesday through Friday with family on the visit? Freeman must be a top priority for '24. I wonder if he can reclassify? We really need a good forward with Miller and Clowney leaving.

He’s still on the visit so I haven’t really heard much yet. But a lot of optimism at least.

5-Star Asa Newell says 8 programs are recruiting him the hardest
Asa Newell, a five-star recruit in the 2024 class, has received nearly 20 high-major offers. Out of the laundry list of programs, the 6-foot-9 power forward out of Montverde (Fla.) Academy says eight schools are recruiting him the hardest. With that being said, his recruitment still remains fully open.
“Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Kansas, Arkansas, Indiana, Florida, and Texas,” Newell responded when asked via text message.
According to the On3 Consensus, Newell ranks as the No. 10 overall prospect in the country. The On3 Consensus is the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).
Newell has taken official visits to Georgia (where his older brother Jaden plays) and Indiana.
Newell talks Georgia, Indiana
In a previous interview with On3, Newell discussed the two programs he’s officially visited — Georgia and Indiana.
Georgia: “Coach Erik Pastrana gave me me my first offer when he was at Oklahoma State. He’s really shown love from the get-go. He’s watched me and my game grow. Obviously, my brother (Jaden Newell) is a freshman there. He loves it down there. He’s saying coach Mike (White) is doing a good job of developing players. I want to go somewhere where I can play, and play through mistakes, and where I can develop. I grew up in Athens and lived there for ten years.”
Indiana: “Coach Ya (Yasir Rosemond) coach Brian (Walsh, and my boy Adam (Howard), they’ve all done a good job recruiting me. Texting me every day. I want to see what they do with Trayce (Jackson-Davis) and Malik Reneau. They have really good fans too. I’m just evaluating them this season and see what they have to offer as a basketball school.”
Scouting Summary
“Asa Newell is a lengthy forward with a projectable frame,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “The frame is what you notice from the second he walks on the floor. The lefty has soft touch with range that extends beyond the three-point line, especially off the catch. He is comfortable driving left aggressively. He is an instinctive offensive rebounder, and he is not afraid to mix it up in traffic and hunt put-back dunks. Newell will need to continue developing the right hand and progressing with his middle game. Strength will also be a thing with the 6-foot-9 forward. However, with his size, skill set, and quick-twitch athleticism, when his motor runs hot, there is a lot of production he brings to the court.”

Combo of him and Sherrell would be awesome. Add in/sub Asa Newell in there and that’s legendary. I think Sherrell is a 5 for us with Freeman and Newell as 4s.
I assume we’ll be down to one of Bediako (senior) or Pringle (COVID yr) and Walters (+ potentially a transfer) as our bigs by that point, so we’ll need at least 2 bigs to come in. I see our roster probably including 5 “bigs” (ex. Bediako, Clowney, Gurley, and Pringle are this years’) and the other 8 wings and guards once we fill out a true 13-man roster.
